Hey everybody, I haven't posted any update pics of the tanker for a couple years but thought it's about time I did. After hearing about the Monster garage show, I figured I'd show mine off now before everyone thinks I got the idea from the show. I've been working on this project with my buddy Drew for a few years now. Yeah yeah, I know what your thinking.....What's taking so long? But when you have to fabricate every single thing from scratch, it takes a lot longer than building a rod. It will be running a 4 banger and we hope to have it at the lakes by years end. But then again, I think I said that last year. The motor is being built right now... I'll show some pics in a few months. Well, enjoy the pics, and check out the one of me cutting out the bulkheads to fit the top portion of the tank.. I really hated doing it, those old tanks are so nicely made, ...but oh well. PS. Any metal shapers in the So cal area want to tackle forming a real nice Beatty style head fairing for this thing?
Here is the engine setup.... Vintage 4 banger adapted to shortned C4 and a Greek coupler to the quick change.
rustyparts... thx-138jr had, or might still have one for sale man,,, $600 aint a bad price. here is the post from the HAMB classifieds belly tank T.
Tell me about those front shocks. Are they up-side-down ? Does it matter ? I'm using that type on all four corners of my project. Thanks !
I was looking at the JJ tank thread and thought to myself "I wonder if anyone HERE has built a tank?" Thanks for answering THAT one in a good way!! It's looking real good!!
Divcos! I'm glad MG brought you out of hiding! Your in progress shots always RULE. What kind of color scheme are you going to run?
Thanks for the photos, really cool. what are the dimensions of the tank you used? is this the 13 foot or the 10 footer? Joel "Bakersfield Boy"
It already has been said numerous times before, but again, very beautiful lakester !!! And your Roadster is not bad either...
I like it! Are you gunning for the Hop Up 100mph club with a flathead four? Or are you going to slap an OHV banger in there and shoot for the stars? Keep up the good work! Sam.
Teii us about the details...rubber, wheel sizes, motor etc. Years ago I saw a belly tank that really impressed me. OHV banger with a Halibrand sprint car in-and-out box, quick change. It was front wheel drive with Jeep spindles and hubs on the Ford axles. The idea is to get the driver low and not sitting over the drive shaft. It was a beautifully made car with all kinds of WWII aircraft parts. Heard it later got a full streamliner body and V-8. Wish I could find some photos of it
That is too fucking cool, man. The rolling stock alone is enough to make me drool. I've wanted to build a bellytank for years. I wish I had the room and the skills to pull off something half that nice [I've got a pair of tanks, though they're the smaller ones]. Make sure to keep us posted on your progress, I'd love to see that thing finished.
Wow, Thanks for the compliments.... that's awsome. To answer some questions..... The wheels and tires are 18" rear tires are 700x18 shaved indy tires and the fronts are dunlop racing. The tubing was bent at a place called aero bending in Lancaster, I gave them patterns I made out of electrical conduit. The engine is going to be full race... Rutherford OHV head 5 main crank and girdle etc. And as far as the color scheme... right now I'm leaning toward a silver blue hammertone like the Tattersfield tank, but I'm not sure. After the headfairing is done I'll post a side shot and we can photoshop it. Does anybody have a color photo of the Tattersfield tank?
