I think it's high time some HAMBers got together and screwed SOMETHING together to have fun in.
It's awefully lonely running this thing alone.

Well I've been hearing quite a bit lately about new racecars that will be at this years HAMB drags - mostly individuals, or a couple guys going in as partners on a car. If there's any interest in a HAMB project car, I'd sure be interested in helping out however I could. I think it'd be the ultimate "club project"...

But back to the point, does the "Big cars at the HAMB drags" deal depend on having the Pedregon car there? I mean, since this thread started, I've been talking to some people with some pretty hairy stuff, and they all say, "Well, if Pedregon runs Conder, we'll be there too". But we haven't heard a peep outa the Pedregons (have you, Ryan?), and I had to find this thread on page three today. Maybe there's not as much interest in this thing as I thought.....Beuller?............Anyone? NOBODY reading this wants to line up next to Conder and dodge him for a quarter mile? Remember, if he knocks any cool parts off of your car, you can still sell 'em on ebay...

    Tony = TheJoker

I guess he doesn't know his schedule yet. He did tell me he plans on coming whether he runs or not. I certainly wouldn't count on his fickle ass. :)

Sam, I've had the very same dream for a few decades now. Call me when you're ready, and maybe I can live the dream vicariously through you, by donating some labor or something (and that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I'm too damn poor to change the oil in my daily driver).....

Thanks, Ryan. Okay, so now we know SOMETHING...I guess if nothing else, Conder's set-up to race hisself, with two cars and two drivers...

Condor, whats it take to sit in your other car? Dad and I have fire suits ready.

My dad has wanted the tire smokers since he started building dragsters again, and Chrisman is the only one that has done it, if anyone has seen the hustler run its awsome.

If I had your cars sitting in my shop .................I could get the backing to run em.

Where ? TV is the Avenue I would take , one national commercial would do it.

and if someone would write a screenplay for "the Surfers" real story we all could have em if a major hollywood studio would pick it up.

We did that dodge Hemi commercial and they spent close to a million for 3 days..

TV.....Movie even a music video =$$.... is where dreams come true.

Thats where I would fish. if I can help let me know.

Holy shit. And I was just starting to settle down.......

  7. Yea... I was at Fremont every year in the 80's at the Nostalgia Nationals... in May... when Crisman would smoke them the whole quarter mile. There were others... Pete Eastwood's Samuri, the Cortopassi Bros. Glass Slipper, this BADD ASSED Fuel Coupe that still runs the CHRR (red and black)... Pat Ganahl's "Low Buck Special" driven by Floydd Lippencott III... I mean, these guys would fry the hides all the way through the quarter mile. The NDRA had a rule that said you had to smoke the tires... damn it was fun for this youngin' to watch the push starts, the "turn around" dance... all of it, man was it cool.

Just once... just once I'd like to see it again... I think Conder's set up will be the key that unlocks the door.

    What's it gonna take?

    Money?

Start whoring yourselves out boys... MOKAN is our mecca...

Timmy boy... your cars look like they're damn near ready to run... what's the holdup? Don't be bashfull... people on the HAMB have connections man...

    Sam.
p.s. And the rest of you all need to get together on Wednesday nights and build something to run and have fun with... it really is a kick in the pants-cheap ass fun... I get frustrated because I KNOW there are people out there with the skills... the money... and they aren't doing it. Shit, say you don't know how to build something... there's enough people here to help you out... just get started!

When I started my whole deal all I wanted to do was build my own 150" iron hemi top fueler and smoke the tires. That's it. Even with a blown hemi on nitro, if you do most of the work yourself you can build a car like this for what it takes to build a good CHOPPER. When I started asking around on how to do it up in seattle I caught a lot of smack. It actually insulted some of the people I talked to and I heard more than one guy say "Who the hell do you think you are? You can't just be a top fuel dragster driver."

Can you see where I'm going with this?

When big money and business found drag racing it must have been very cool at first. Drag racers had a really tough time and they were being bankrupted, maimed and killed developing the technology. With money came safety and speed. Now however, nothing big gets done in drag racing or even the art world unless the short (and safe) money is there.

I knew this, and I wanted to build and drive my own fueler. But now I'm being told they'll never let me run it and even if somebody has a car like mine, they won't run me because I'm new. So okay, I'll build TWO cars and match race them. Just how in the !@#$ does a working class guy with no connections, experience or real money do that exactly? You just fucking figure it out. That's how.

I was overcome with motivation, it wasn't enough to copy my heroes. It had to belong to me and the folks LIKE me. Snake & the Mongoose? How about the ULTIMATE RIVALRY. That's right, God vs. the Devil, good vs. evil. It's way cooler than using animal or cowboy names, kind of like a living Robert Williams painting.

"TRUE" drag racers and veterans of the sport have blamed this aspect of A.T.F. for their lack of involvement. The proven fact is, they think tiresmokers are too dangerous and unpredictable when coupled with the new tech and new drivers, the last thing they need is carnage. I'll say it again, like I said it 5 years ago on Nitronic Research...if they really want to do it, they can do it themselves. It doesn't have a damn thing to do with GOD, the DEVIL or Tim Conder knocking parts off their cars.

I'm as suprised as you guys are. What's even MORE suprising is my whole gig got very little play on this board until a superstar with big corporate backing got involved. Suddenly everything is possible...What's that say about all us "no sell out" hot rodders, chopper builders, artists yada yada?

Maybe all of us should know our place. Git our asses to the mall and buy buy buy so the folks who deserve to do it can do it. Is that too "angry"?

I'll wrap this up with a quick story...When I was 16 I took some of my art to a custom body shop and showed it to the owner hoping to get a job there. I said, "man I would love to learn how to chop a mercury or flame a car". He looked up from my drawings and goes..."BULLSHIT, you gotta knock dents outta GREMLINS for 20 years before you even get to TOUCH a MERCURY! Who the hell do you think you are?"

I got news for you folks...I'M ON YOUR SIDE. If a human being can do it, YOU CAN DO IT. STEP UP.

Fucking throw me the keys... I'm licsensed up to top fuel... Even tore up one of Frank Hawley's cars to get it... Believe Tony was even there to see it...

Seriously though Conder, you could get a little corporate and still be able to say that you didn't sell out. Hell, some people say that Green Day is still punk rock... you gotta shot...

I've got all the excuses in the world for not getting into this hobby sooner than my pocketbook allowed. The fucked up part is that if everyone who WANTED to build these cars compared notes....we'd probably have the same excuses.

Conder.....your enthusiastic posts have got me wanting to run down to the parking lot and do donuts in my company truck. I'm not stoked about coming to these drags because Joker posted a "maybe". Fuck...I didn't even catch on until Ryan said something.

That enthusiasm you, jangle, cole, and sam write with is what makes guys like me really really want to be involved. Maybe not go out and build a top fueler but just go and fuckin build something that goes fast...and relatively straight.

Ha! Me neither - but I'm always the last guy in town to catch on to anything...

As for enthusiasm getting things done - I'm willing to bet I'm the most low income person on the HAMB (okay, IF I had some money to bet with). I won't go into detail right now, out of sheer embarrassment...But passion and becoming goal oriented have taken me to places I never dreamed I'd be. I'll repeat it one more time: if I can do it, anyone can...go do donuts.............

  18. Yea... I second that. The one thing I have is determination...

And as for getting pumped up... wait 'till you drop the loud pedal on a digger for the first time... gaaaaaaaaaaawdamn! I tell ya... the rush is something that gets you all pumped up! But I enjoy building and thinking up what I'm gonna build as much as I do... naaaaaaa... almost as much as I do driving them!

I have this dream of marketing an altered drag car for people who want to go fast on the cheap. I'd sell a kit that you'd have to mount the body on, make some tin for... and buy things like wheels, tires, breakes... axles and pumpkin for also... for like 5k... and rollers ready to paint, drop a motor in and race for 10k. I think I could sell them like hot cakes if I could just get some people to go for a RIDE in one. Solid mounted rear end... 98" wheelbase... fucking FUN!

A "street" 400hp motor would make one of these rockets run low 10's... 550hp run mid 9's and so on...

Call it comercialism... or marketing... or whatever... but I'm just out to get people into this shit... and make some money for my time...

Anyway... I think Tim Conder don't have a hair on his ass if he doesn't get Durex or and Trojan to sponsor his cars... better yet... get them to sponsor the whole "SMOKE-UM IF YOU GOT "EM" Drag Racing Series!!!

The NHRA has Poweraide... we have Durex!!!!

And Tim... screw that whole anti comercialism BS... just tell the company that they get the entire under-side of your car for add space... and LET HER RIP!

That's great! Love it...Jeez Sam, I have a dozen catalogs sittin' here full of MODERN roadster/altered chassis, but not one clean, simple chassis like you're talkin' about. Hmm...I can see it now - at next years HAMB drags, the lanes could be totally clogged with SamIyam/Durex altereds, and the one guy in a Brogie is talking shit about the "bellybutton cars"!

    Okay, so where were we?

So what's it take to really blister 'em off the line nowadays? Blown nitro torque, a locked up clutch and direct drive? I saw Garlits in an early Swamp Rat a few years ago at a big track in VA. He tried it but it just didn't work. Gave up on the track and ran up the return road, on the grandstand side of the fence. Smoke'd 'em for 800 feet. One of the most entertaining runs I ever saw.

We put a blown alcohol digger together in the garage a few years ago. 5 guys that had never touched a blower or owned a dragster before, so it can be done. Old pipe, station wagon big block, street 6.71. It did beautful 600 ft burnouts, run 7s but it always hooked off the line. Had to put a wheelie bar on it to keep it on the ground. It had modern goodyears, 12x33. All the repo tires I've seen are too short to look right or we would have tried them.

The chassis is gone, a well known cacklefest car now, but the motor is still in the garage waiting for another shot. In the meantime we've got other projects going on.

Anyway, I hope this thing happens.

How can they say smoking tires down the quarter is dangerous when these ricers are out there "drifting"?? Isn't that what drifting is about? A controlled skid? We'll call the new sport "Smoking" and everyone will love it...ha ha Alright..gotta call Ken and see what hes up to...

Gotta get back to work, but...Note to Joker: there's been about 2500 hits on this thread - so there ARE people interested in seeing this happen, and that's just in our little garage here...Hope you can work things out to do it...But then there's Pat and Cole, too - Hmm.....Hey Conder, how 'bout if Pat and Tony give Good and Evil a baptism by fire? You can drive next time...Well, after Ryan's had his turn, of course.....You guys fight over the keys for a while, and I'll be back later...........

ATTENTION! This amazing picture is NOT ME. It is off of http://www.wediditforlove.com and it's Tom Hanna from the early sixties. Apparantly there are a couple people from the east coast who think I have a bent dragster frame.

My cars are not running yet. I am currently working on clutch stuff. They look close but have many little details to finish before they are ready. Hopefully I'll have bent my frames at least a couple times by the end of the year. That is all. - Tim
