I have a 54 chevy hardtop that had a powerglide in it. I'm dropping a sbc and a turbo 400 in it and I'm wondering if it would be easier to have the driveshaft made to fit the turbo 400 or should I just find another rear end to put in it? Has anyone done this before?
Do you need one because I'm about ready to just sell it and get a rear end out of an s-10 or camaro. The rear end I have is like new! It's already been gone through and painted including the brakes!
The 54 has an enclosed driveshaft. Far, far, far easier to swap the rear end. Swapping the rear has been done thousands of time.
1955 - 1957 Chevy rear ends are practically a bolt in. It seems that they use the same brakes as a 1954 Chevy??? As a result, the stock master cylinder etc. would work OK.
Thanks for all the great input. I was leaning towards the s10 so thanks for confirming my thoughts. outlaw- what year g body? did you use the trailing arms for air bags? if so how good did that work out?
