What was the hardest single part of your hot rod to find??

As we all know, some parts are just impossiable to find.

What took you forever to find and where did you find it??

I have been building a 28 WIllys sedan converted into truck thing... I wanted to run the Willys tailgate the one with the big W O on it for willys overland. I have had the project for two years now and I finally got my grubbly hands on a beautiful 51 tailgate. I was buying backing plates and the guy had a 51 truck in his shop changing the bed to a flat bed.

That trip sent me home with 40 Ford backing plates, the tailgate and a fiberglass T-Bucket body and bed

    Here is the tailgate.

Boring but it was the seat pan for a '35-36 ford.

For my '32 though it's the Brookville quarters that I picked up for a song.

Truthfully the hardest thing to find for the wagon was the original script emblems and then I had to have them re-chromed,,it took a big stack of fun tickets to do that! HRP

  10. I searched for a few years for a 40's Oldsmobile steering wheel that was in decent condition. Finally got a perfect NOS 1942 Oldsmobile wheel, thanks to Hamb'er "Crestliner" and the HAMB classifieds 'parts wanted' section. ...Now if I can restore my old center to look as nice as the wheel.

The trunk lid emblem for my 65 Riv that I later decided to shave with all the others. Bought NOS for $60 from a guy in Illinois that claimed he had anything I wanted for a 65 Riv. Later called him for the rear seat arm rest, then he sold it all to one guy.

Finding stuff is easy, being able to afford it is the hard part!

For the next one I've got the hard parts first though. V8-60 axle...roundback spindles....'33/4 perches...early 682c headlights...a decent pair of '52 Pontiac taillights. For the stuff thats too hard to find, I'll just have to make it!

That and the power vent window option. Fun to keep looking for the parts, though. The hunt is on.

    Later,

A good rearview mirror for my '64 chevy truck. Most the '60-'66es I have come across did not have this as an option, and when I found one, nice and mint, with all chrome and paint untouched, I jumped on it like a fat chick on a cupcake.
Now it is screwed into the area above the windshield where it will sit, letting me know where i've been.

  24. middle chrome spear for the rear door for the wifes 49 cadillac, car was missing both, i found one but still need another!!!

Still haven't found interior garnish moldings for my 5 window. It's so frustrating. As soon as I find a decent set, I'm going to repop them
myself and give them out for free.

  29. I have had the '42 Chevrolet Coupe since December '09 and have been actively looking for grille surround parts and just in the last month found the NOS turn signal buckets and the "doglegs" that go from the center Chevrolet emblem to the turn signal bezels, those were the "only" set I have found! Nice to have a pre-war 1/2 year of production car! Quite the contrast from my previous car, my 1-800-ALL-PARTs '55 Chevrolet! :D
