216 to a 235

    have a 48 chevy sedan has a 216 with s-10 five speed, what is involved in swapping the 216 for a 235?

    its pretty much a bolt in swap. The only things that might come up are the water pump and the engine mounts. Try searching, theres a ton of straight 6 threads on here.

    You may also have to move the gas pedal pivot point.

    I like the conversion plate water pump style better than the short shaft style. The short shaft puts the fan too low on the radiator. The conversion plate keeps it up high by the head and lets you use the standard 216 style waterpump.

    Another little known thing is that some 235 manifolds dump straight down and some angle back. You either have to fix your exhaust pipe, or get the right manifold.

    '37-'48 exhaust manifolds dump straight down
    '49-'52 exhaust manifolds angle back, but most are machined to fit 216 intakes
    '53-'62 exhaust manifolds angle back and work with 235 intakes

    On my 52 chevy I went from a busted 54 235 to a 51 216 with 0 issuses. Hope this helps! Sam

    +1. Definetly runs cooler using the adapter plate w/ early pump than the short shaft method. Good visual of the difference on this page:
