This one really makes me happy to see that it still exists and is being brought back.
Easily in the top 5 of my personal favorites of all time.
Hope to see it at the show.

Here is the T-Bird rings you are talking about... Not sure if these are the same though. Perhaps they are if the wheel would stick out further than the trim ring.
So far I also have not find any info that these or similar pieces where produced in the early 50's by Ford.
The photos are taken in either the late 40's or early 50's.
But these are for sure the widest trim rings I have seen... If somebody has any more info on these early white trim rings from Ford!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions... keep them coming.

  7. And to get it back as it once was you must find that black tar and spread it the same way it was done... or?

    På med pilen Palle!

  8. Wow! Rik....what a treat it must be for you to be involved in so many historic custom restorations as well as the GNRS. Are you in heaven or what?

Like someone's said recently......THESE are the good times for traditional rods and customs. Trendy or not.

And on topic....Pontiac had similar trim rings, but I don't think they were that wide at the rim. GM products might be worth looking at.

Good luck....can't wait to see this car in January...

Not sure about this, but might they be "flipper" caps minus the actual "flipper??" I have no idea who made the flipper caps but remember that they were popular in the late 40s.

Its not the moon part of this set up that we are wondering about. Those where very common back in the late 1940's. And yes most likely they where the same as the flipper hubcaps but without the holes to put the flippers in.
Several aftermarket companies made those hubcaps.
Its more the trim ring that we are clueless about.

Here are some more photos of the car.

Relocated gas filler tube into the trunk

Better view of the "raised" inner fenders inside the trunk

Notched frame to give some travel space for the much lowered rear axle.

This is how the rolled door bottoms look like from the inside. The rolled sheet metal extends the doors where once the running boards where.

man, those 41's sure are rust magnets...

  25. I'd be happy to see it at the show even if it's not finished!Like the Sam Barris Merc at Sacramento.

  26. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have a little bit of info on the car in a short time span in the mid-late 60's.

A friend of mine bought the car from a guy who's parents owned the local A&W Root Beer in Sedalia, Mo.. By the time he got it the motor had been removed and put in a 1953 Merc. He bought the car for very little and kept it for a short while, the police hounded him for it being parked in his side yard with no plates or city sticker. After being hasseled he removed the dropped front axle and put it in a '41 Ford pickup he was building and put the pickup axle back under it and sold it for $75.00 to another guy in Sedalia, it left Sedalia a short time later. He says he thought he saw it in Liberty Mo around the early 70's. I was just a kid in the early 70's I helped sand the pickup at a body shop that painted it. He later sold the pickup to a guy who eventually moved to Texas. Somewhere in Texas is a '41 Ford pickup with the dropped front axle from the Snooky car running around. I never saw the car, but always heard of the Barris Car that everyone in Sedalia claimed to of owned at one time or another.

Great thread , hope the car gets done for the 2011 show. I may finally get to see this treasure.

These trim rings were on the 1949 - 51 Mercury chassis I bought. The stock Mercury hubcap holds them on. About a 1/2" of the wheel bead is left exposed as it appears is the wheels on the Janich car. Hope this helps. Watch for PM on1941 fender skirts also.
