Just wanted to share some pictures of my louver press that I just built, the paint is still wet and Im not sure it is going to stay this color as I was planning on going black with some hand painted pin stipping but changed my mind...any thoughts? It stands about 7' tall with a 4' throat and weighs in just over 1400 pounds. I built it all out of 3/8 plate steel and it only flexes about 1/4'' when punching I hope this encurages others to build their own press.
very nice , red looks good , makes it look like a object of art and not a press. where did you get the design idea on how to build it from?
I like the red to. Maybe pinstripe the red with some black and silver. Throw in alittle white or yellow for the hell of it.
Wish I had a shop that could hold a tool half that size. That's awesome! The skills shown all over the HAMB are insane.
Thanks, it is a hydrolic press and the bones are for support for the back legs, When I started to research louver presses I came across a company called Odd Ball Kustoms and they have a video on youtube with their press and it is a similar design but only a 3' throat, and over all smaller
up to 16 gauge, thats what the dyes are rated for, Im sure the rest could handle more, but a new set of dyes are about 5oo bucks
Great looking press, what part of Ontario does a guy have to drive to when needing louvers now? I'm in Campbellford, 100 or so miles east of Toronto. Need some stripes, I can help you there! Chris.
if you can build that press you can make your own dies, tool steel is soft when you buy it, you make what you want and then send it out to be hardened.
The press it self was about 1500 and I have about the same in steel and wheels and odds and ends I'm in Brantford Ontario
Can the wheels be locked in place when your using it? I'd hate to have it move and shift the piece right as you were starting the punch. It looks like a very sturdy piece, and yes..............I'm jealous. Frank
