The T/A's i make are used on cars that have the rear located by links (not leafs), so we have very little fore/aft movement of the linkage as the suspension goes thru it's travel. We've had as good as 1.3sec 60' times with one, but if the car has that much power, the tunnel's gonna need some reinforcing ;)

Handles nice and goes straight, but goes around corners too.

I like the idea of a shackle in the front in lieu of a slider at the housing, especially if you have a car already together.

My questions is has anyone tried this shackle setup on the track? I'd think under load, there'd be a lot of action going on and a lot of stress. Theory is good but would love to hear some actual proof. If you've done this, how thick material did you use for the shackle? Thanks!

The shackle plates are 1/4". I've been building these solid axle TA conversions for years, to replace the IRS in customer '86-'91 Maxda RX-7's. Use one in my personal OT street/strip car too..5500rpm clutch dumps, drag radials, trackbited/gold dusted tracks... http://grannys.tripod.com/20102.html

I dont have pictures but with my transverse spring, I made ladder bars out of black pipe and attached them under the tail of the transmission with a large heim. 1935 Ford, 350/350
For the guys who insist that you gotta use chrome moly, I will point out that I seriously overstressed the bars on the street and they have held up for 20 years now

These came on my car. They bolt to same bracket off the frame that has the rear of the front radius arms. Been that way since 50s to early 60s.

You're right! S/S Ford teams used them back in the early 60's. They were more of a "reverse traction bar" and seemed to work quite well. The F/X Fords used the ladder bar style. They were rectangle tubing that were fairly long, about 48" I think they used a shackle up front to stop the bind. bowtie40...

One of the million sets of Lakewoods. Did'nt have shackles or floaters and they were binding. So I changed to the Slappers

Those "welds" are truly scary. I'm not talking about their appearance alone either, but by the looks of 'em, I see inadequate penetration. They need to be repaired...

I have been a master mechanical engineer for 20-years, a certified pro welder for 27-years, a welder for 36-years, and most importantly a welding inspector for 15-years.

Your welds are not safe. You are placing yourself, and everyone around you in danger, for the sake of foolish pride.

Hurling insults is the behavior of a small man.

Rise above, and fix your welds.

What sanctioning body has accepted these welds in a tech inspection?

I will call the local inspectors in your area, on Monday, and ask that your safety certification be audited.

I have first hand seen those pretty welds brake on ladder bar brackets welded to a rear end housing at the track.
And I have seen welds that don't look pretty that you could not jack hammer apart.
