What rear do i have....year

  1. Bought a 50 Merc......GM drivetrain....350 sbc, 700c4 trans, 8.5 10 bolt rear. However I need parts for the brakes. Not sure what year the rear is??? And what vehicle it's from???
    Numbers are: Axle= 2FB 0 286
    Lower housing No.= 555771
    Top housing No.= 276
    Misc marking= CFD
    Wheel cylinder= 15/16 2940
    Brake drum= 3853714


    DRUM size DIAMETER= 9 1/2 inches

    Please if anyone has any info I would appreciate it

    what size are the brakes? diameter of the inside of the drum, and width of the shoes. Most are 11 x 2 or 9.5 x 2

    What is the wheel bolt pattern?

    Also if you take a picture or two, we like that.

    It sure looks like a 7.5"?

    no FB code in my book that covers up to 1975

    That sounds likely

    still uses the 9.5 x 2" brakes though....right?

  8. Looks like the rear in that henry j I just bought, I don't know what it is either but measuring in at 48 inches backing plate to backing plate I'd say mine is an S-10.

    Looked up the brakes up says 9 1/2 X 2 1/16
    Hope it helps 2000 gmc sonoma 2.2L 5spd

    that's a 7.5 or 7.65 rear no question. Definitely not an 8.5

  12. so its a 7.5 gm 10 bolt rear with 2.56:1 gears......do you know what year it is? I need shoes, brake cylinder, springs, etc.

    2.56 gears were common in the late 70s-early 80s before overdrive came along. But not in pickups, just in cars. Interesting. And you have 15/16" wheel cylinders that bolt in.

    I dont know, best bet is to head to the parts store with your parts, and look up various cars/trucks that it might be, and see if they match.

    Tell the parts store 73 Chevelle, the parts will fit.
