Looks like you're off to a good start. Take that flywheel to school and tell them what you want to do. Shouldn't be that difficult if the bed on the lathe is low enough...
Glad to see your'e at work on another...

  4. Great Build!
you could always build a windshield like the Dick King roadster and remove it for the lakes ;)

Nice pile of parts to start with. The direction sounds real good too.

Here's a little update. Still plugging away.

*I drilled my 40 backing plates, and I started a thread on it. So if anyone wants a template they can print out, PM me with your email...

*I cut the model A headlight stands, now I just have to heat and bend them.

*I scored a cool 21 stud engine on craigslizt for $350, I think its from '38 truck? It has a toploader trans, and it had some old chrome accessory headbolt covers and an old chrome air filter. I hope it was a hopped up motor from the 50's or something! Anyway, it turns over real smooth and I have a good feeling it will run. Im keeping my fingers crossed, and I give it a try this weekend.

*Started measuring my F1 crossmember, just need the trans mount and Ill weld it in.

Done a few other little things here and there too.

I still need: If you know anyone selling these let me know!
***front suspension, 32 heavy or model a drop axle, spring and split bones, round spindles
    ***28-29 roadster body
***(2) 16x4.5 steelies for the back
    ***Firestone Black walls
    ***mini van seat
    ***28-29 hood, top portion
***40 ford dash to cut up
***37-39 ford closed car windshield to modify

Great start! Looking forward to this build!

For the mini van seat, check out your local so. cal. pick-a-part. My buddy Erik says the Mazda ones work really well for 28/29's and they even recline. He always seems to score them at the pick-a-part down here for $30 or $40!

yeah, thats what I was figuring on doing, but Ill probably just wait till i find a body just to make sure its the right size etc.

I saw a 37-39 closed car windshield on ebay yesterday here in LA, and he wanted $200.

Yeah, I pieced together my first roadster, not as easy as it sounds. If I had to do it again, I would think twice about it (I would even consider a Brookville). But believe me, you really get to know a Model A body really well --down to the 1/16 of an inch.

  22. Hey Ollin, any updates?

I think the windscreen frame uses the upper part of a late 30s frame. Other than that I know nothing.

Hey guys. Here's another update. Havent gotten to do too much more but Been collecting parts etc.

I was messing around in photoshop again, to get it real clear in my mind, and then I saw this body in the classifieds and now Im pretty much sold on the closed car windshield idea:

I think I will round the corners and try to do it a little less "chunky" like this...

I am also thinking that the body will be a 30-31 roadster since the 28-29 cowl has that squared off part, I think the 30-31 cowl would flow better once I graft in the windshield.

So I scored a real clean 30-31 firewall on ebay, couldnt pass it up for $35

so now I am on the lookout for a complete roadster body,
or, I am still really considering piecing one together...

My idea as of right now is to use a 30-31 cowl from a 4 door or some other less desirable body style, since I will be doing the custom windshield, and try to find roadster doors, quarters etc. No point in using a real roadster one.

Axle says the door hinges should bolt up to that cowl, but if anyone else knows for sure or otherwise please let me know!

saw this one, but Ill try to find one closer to me...

and saw this on ebay for $99, a 36 ford cowl section. I think any late 30's car would probably work though for my purposes. Ill try to find one with the trim and glass etc.

scored some original 41 chevy tailights for $39

and scored a 32 heavy axle, wishbone, and spring from here in the classifieds
    [IMG]

I think I am going to just run the bones unsplit, and mount it like Chris' thread off the F1 crossmember.. like so:

    and a model T spring today for $40 :)

Started trimming the F1 crossmember to fit, and I realized that daniel superman still has my welder. Ill get back on it later this week.
Once I finish welding the crossmember in, I can mount my f1 pedals, master cyllinder, clutch linkage etc.
Most importantly, I will be able to fire the engine up!
I ordered the 2 sparkplugs I needed that were broken, and the got here the other day.
I have a really good feeling about this 21 stud!

I also got some pretty nice front hubs, and the other rims I needed. So now I have 5.

Also, thanks to ThunderbirdEsq for the paint!

Anyone reading this, I still need:

    Front Spindles
Saddle thingy to modify for the wishbone ball deal.
    (4) Blackwall bias ply Tires,
Roadster Body or 30-31 Cowl/roadster body parts
late 30's cowl section for the windshield
    Front spring clamps
Front drums, wheel studs, brake shoes for cores
40 ford dash, or something else cool...
BLC 904 A glass marker light lense***

I guess thats pretty much it for now, I just gotta get back to work on it. Hopefully the weather stays nice here.
Would be nice to get the cowl at least soon, because that would keep me busy for a little while.

oh I forgot, I also scored a hood and hood sides on Inland empire Craigslist for $80. The dude was cool, and he threw in the wood for the floors and a tire for mockup etc.

I also forgot to mention that I made my own pipes. I paid $5 for this old header at the muffler shop and it was 1.5" pipe and it already had the bends I needed

heres my rim. Getting closer to being a roller!

I also forgot to mention, I screwed up and dropped the BLC 904A light and broke the little marker light.

If anyone has an extra one, please let me know!!!!
