So im upgrading the cam in my 355 SBC, and i would like your guys advice on cams. Im currently running a Crane 272H, but would like to upgrade to a Summit K-1106.

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-K1106/

Im upgrading from a performer and a single 600 to a Weiand Tunnel ram and 2 500cfm carbs, and looking for a decent higher rpm cam. For the money, it seems that this cam isnt half bad, but i would like the experience from the hamb to guide me. The heads are 58cc 305 heads with 1.94 valves. Iv opened up the intake runners and polished the bowls so they should flow pretty well. Im also upgrading to heavy valve springs good for .500 lift.

    What do you guys think?

    Thankyou,

    Marty

    What compression? Converter? Gears?

Regarding Summit cams, I know quite a few who have used them with good/reliable results.

It will probably be ok, but you might want to think about something with a little less lobe separation angle to get you a bit more lope and midrange power. Other than that, the duration and lift look to be right where you want them. Although that 3 speed's days are numbered.

Imho, too big, it really need's at least 11 to 1 CR. to run right. Plus, I would want something like a 3.73 or 3.90 reg under her.

I have a Melling 292/230, 109/107, .480 hy-cam in my right at 9.5 to 1 Strong Arm 406 along with my M-20, 3.31 posi and 26.5" tall great big L-60/14's that I DD for a year way back then and it was a dog until I got her up to at least 25 if not 3,000 rpm, then hold on!!

Engine is all together and on my stand because I pulled it after like 13,000 miles to make room for my 496.

OK. That one should do ok. A split pattern cam would work better with those cylinder heads. Be sure to use some good valve springs. The manual shift trans and gears are going to help with tuning the intake.

I have that cam in a 327 30 over with an edelbrock dual quad and two 600 afb's in my 55 with a 4 speed. It idles pretty fair, 900-1000 rpm, runs alittle rich and is a little lazy on the low end and done at 5500 (could be my used valve srings).
I have 4.30 gears so it jumps pretty good.
I'm no expert but it works ok for me

i wouldn't be too worried about running that cam in that combo. i'm running the next step up from that cam in my 305, with less compression (around 9:1) & less gear (3.36) , and my car has no driveability issues besides being pretty sluggish under 1500 rpms. pulls strong through 5500. it's got a pretty tough sounding idle, around 900 rpms.

  12. I'm using the K1106 in 9.25 comp 331, 461 heads. The cam makes the engine lope pretty damn good, good enough for me. Lobe separation at 114 degrees will make it vacuum power brake friendly if that is a concern. Good torque cam, damn good.

Go to Summit and put this in the search box: 112141-08 Summit now carries Howard Cams this would work better with your heads and you would gain back some low end torque and still have a healthy lope.
