Customs 51 plymouth my build thread a little late!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by glendale, Oct 5, 2010.

  1. o.k. i have decided it's time to put up or shut up. so here is my build thread. i am catching you guys up from the last four years. my plan is to try and have the car on the road by oct 29th drive the shit out of it for a month and then bomb to the mooneyes x-mas show since it's my b-day weekend and i have always wanted to go. so here are the pics and i will update as i go.

i started with a bone stock 51 two door hartop car. that i could not get to run right for anything.

so what's a guy to do. i yanked the motor and trans and installed a 350/350 and a jeep cherokee rear.

  2. o.k. at that point it ran and drove. so i said to myself why leave well enough alone. let's chop the top. so here we go!

i did not want anything super radical. it's about four inches all the way around. as you can see in the pics i have also at this point installed a new straighter front clip. and the rear window sheetmetal is from a 50 desoto.

I think that is about the most well proportioned chop on that body style I've seen. Nice work.

Looks good! One thing I told Boobie aka bloodyknuckles was to extend the quarters forward so that they start closer to the door. I think that might visually lengthen the car which these early plymouths desperately need. Not to make you think about more work because your car is rad!!

    Sort of like this....

And I wouldn't be opposed to extending the rear quarters a couple inches out back sort of like a '51 Merc. That might give you a really nice taper. But like I said, it's really turning out awesome already!!!!

  14. thanks for the comments. the pics do the car alot of justice. it still needs a ton of body work before paint. and that is why i have stalled really. i finally realize that if i don't drive it i am never going to touch it. i need a little motivation

    Cool. Love the chop.
Finish it and then ENJOY !!

  17. Getting ready to section mine 3" (still). The chop made the doors look like a refrigerator...

  18. Fuck! My shit still isn't done since the chop 3 years ago.

...and you think you're a slacker? You've got a lot done.

Keep gettin' it man. It'll come together.

    Looks great.

  21. BTW...JJ is dead on about the rear quarters. I have contemplated grafting on '54 Chevy rear quarter fronts to round it off a bit.
