Does anyone have any more photos of this car: Sorry I don't know whose photo this is as I failed to keep records early on in my collecting.

Guessing it's an A/FC that ran the East Coast Circuit of Jr. Fuel Funny Cars. They used to come to Dragway 42 back in the day, late 60s-70-71. - Smoke

  8. The Yoakum-Stavall was indeed an A/FC.Ran the midwest IFCA and UDRA circuits. Dennis Doubleday

This is a pic I took of the High Plains Drifter at Kansas City International Raceway in May of 1977.

At the time it was driven by Jim McMurray. Jim was from Joplin, Missouri and was known for buying and selling race cars. I always assumed this was something he picked up in a trade and just raced a few times. Don't know who originally built it.

In the early 80's, Jim stopped drag racing and started taking his 7 year old son around to go cart races. They went on to do other types of oval and road course racing, and I'm sure most of you have heard of Jim's kid, Jamie McMurray, this years NASCAR Daytona and Brick Yard winner.

The only thing I have on it is it was run by a guy named General Jerry Lee.

He ran it a few times at Irwindale...real nice guy, then he disappeared...
This would have been about 1967-8.

    Mr. Plummer,

Thanks for the great shots of Steve Carbone.

I lived in Tulsa,OK for a while and used to talk with Steve alot.

The story he tells on burning Big Daddy down at the Nationals was great!

Said the plan was not preconceived but the idea came to him while staging.

    A legend for sure!

    Willys Rule:

    Thanks.

I seen Steve at the HRR in Ky. a couple years back and he remeber me from 1972. We talked & he said, your that little rut who worked with Don Kirby. After all those years I was surpise he rembember me.

It waws sad to hear of his death after seeing how well he looked in KY. I think it was about 6 months later he died.

REQUEST: Could you post a biiger size print you have of Jack Coonrod?

    Thanks,

    Plum

  19. Just for the record from page 1007. This is info is not correct. This is not a restored 2010 pic. It is 1971`or possibly very early '72 and those were 2 different Boss Birds from the same era, very early 70s.
The first one shownin post #20126 was not driven by Arnie Beswick and used a 426.
This car shown here was Pontiac powered at the time of the photo and was burned and destroyed in a building fire in spring '72.

  20. My old man at the hit this past weekend in PA..after we push started him and pulled him into the beams...good times...

    Thanks for posting the photo.

The car was owned earlier by a friend (and/or possibly a group) who lives here in GA now. He was in Nebraska or some where out west at the time. The car was sold to McMurray and there is a story about the remaining payments that I won't get into here as I don't have first hand knowledge. The car was an old Billy Meyer car.

One of the all time road trips, you guys making thermostat housing gaskets riding down the road in Phil's Chevy and the patch up job on Kev's van at the border.
