Good for you! Hope you got the name of the seller, maybe more of the car is still at his place. Hope a restoration is planned. :)

Found the 12/61 HRM mag. with the 1961 B'ville report and the caption. No other pics or mention of the car. Appears to say 'Sherman Oaks Auto Parts' on the hood. Looks to be a well built car with chrome roll bar and bones. The fact that it had several coats of paint tells me it was probably campaigned for a while and I would think there would be more pics floating around, it's quite a photogenic car. The reason I scanned it and recognized it, is that the nose has a 50s Indy car look to it. Makes me wonder if someone like Kuzma, Lesovsky or the like might have hammered it out.

  8. Bill Saderup ran El Mirage and Bonneville in the 50's and 60's. Most SCTA clubs have an historian. I would contact The Road Runners, Gear Grinders, San Diego Roadster Club, Rod Riders, etc. and find out what you can about Bill. I don't know if he is still with us, but if he is, there's your link to info on the car.

Might post over on Landracing.com also. There's several "old salts" over there that might recognize it.

WoW thanks for the great imfo. and the leads, The front axle i got with the car appears to be an old indy car axle ass. not the one in the pic. I wonder what year they would have built this car, The alum. work is very high quality I cant beleave someone made it by hand.that must be a lost art. My goal is if I cant find the rest of it. build it like the pic. Rootie Id like to buy you a steak dinner,or send you a 5th of Jack Daniels

It's hard to get interested in salt & Indy style cars here in the east, but I think this is one of the best finds in a real long time on the Hamb.

    The quality is amazing.

I sure hope this turns into a build thread on Hamb. I think it's a fantastic car.

Would Simard know anything? Seems like he'd want to see this.

Appreciate it, but it's no big deal, glad to help. Now that you have some names it should be fairly easy to track down. As nice as the car looked to have been, I have to believe it was photographed frequently back in the day. Give it a couple of days and I would'nt be surprised if more pics and info show up right here on the HAMB.

What a great thread. Good luck with your search for the rest of the car. Please can you post a picture of the front axle?
Oh, and great nose by the way.

  28. A little more info, the roadster was raced in the 50s by Phil Freudiger who partnered with Tom Cobbs. car is pictured in the Nov. '58 HRM coverage of the 10th Bonneville speedweek. I swear I have seen a feature somewhere on it.

[IMG]If you look at the way the nose section fits over the cowl I wonder if it was made to fit another car originally, and just modified to fit the T body. Check to see if there was an opening for a radiator, and has a filled section. That overall shape is very INDY Car like.
