Looking through local classifieds for a new project, i found this. It has a straight axle already because the current owner was going for a gasser theme. Has the stock rear. he also has a glass clip he is willing to include for $500, he wants $1500 for the car as it sits. No title, just bill of sale. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u140/xsjado_maggot/PART_1284129041857.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u140/xsjado_maggot/PART_1284129163183.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u140/xsjado_maggot/PART_1284129284112.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u140/xsjado_maggot/PART_1284129310025.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u140/xsjado_maggot/PART_1284129349308.jpg What is it worth in its current condition?
alot nicer than my 55 when i got it. i got mine for free with no title or glass. idk what its worth, does it have a title, front end, what rear is in it? im a cheap ass so i cant really answer,
If you can only afford $1500 total, go get two extra jobs. It would take you 3 times that to get on the road unless you are in a car family. I had a cool car at 14, did the paintowrk with my paint guru mentor and thought I had it all. Sold that car thinking I could slam together an AD Chevy pickup. Even with cash in hand I could not come up with anything a 16 year old could get on the road in ANY timeframe. And I had a part time job.
Price of that 56 depends on where you live. Up here in Nor Cal those are out in fields and behind barns. If he's asking for more than 1200 as it sits in your pics then dont lose sleep over it. If that car was located down south or other areas where its a scarce car, then it would be worth more like 2500-5500. Supply and demand. Thats all. Save up your money. You will eventually find one you can afford.
My dad is a mechanic with 30 years experience. I am not looking to build a show car. I just would want to get it running and driving. I know i can get a free complete SBC and tranny if need be.
if you have $1500, find a running and driving car and buy that to tinker with until you're in more of a position to build something. when i was 16/17 i wasted a lot of time and money buying shit i couldn't afford, dumping what little money i had at the time into them, and then selling them at a loss once i figured out i was in over my head.
seems like an aweful lot for alot of rust. But it is a chevy. Might be able to find somthing a bit cheaper if ya keep lookin.
X2, I think we all have been in your shoes with buying a first car. Just keep saving and find one that is more turn key and has no title problems. My car in the avatar took alot of work and money. More than I care to admit. I could have bought a near finished car for less.
given your circumstances, this car is out of your league. like other have said, pass on it (or pass the news onto buddies) and keep an eye open for something else. i found this car for $1500. put $400 into that damn fender, tune up stuff cost about $70 and the tires were $220. thats about $2200 total investment and it was a gem to start with . they are out there, just keep your eyes and ears open
Alright guys, Thanks a bunch. I figured that this car wouldn't be a good deal, but i wanted to be sure.
Looks like a whole lot of work. Unless you are up for a long term project and really want a '56 gasser, I would go for something like the '56 LWB pick-up on CL that is running for $850. There are other deals out there that are in your price range and much closer to cruising down the road. Just my .02
Hold up and back the truck up a second. It seems Ibanez616 has a dream in mind. Lets help him with it and not make him think differant about it. There are still deals to be had for a 56 Bel Air or Sedan. My 2 cents.
Yes, there are deals to be had, this just isn't one of them - patience is the key here (when you only have $1.5K)
I definitly like tri-five chevys, but arent the only thing i would consider. This just happened to be (More like appear) to be in my price range.
