I've actually seen these things up close. They're freaking Massive! I, however, have worked extensively on the more modest Colt Pielstick PC2.5.

As for the BMW V-12 in the Willy's, 100% pure Bad Ass!

I passed on two of these V12s last week. I have a soft spot for em but no space in the garage/shed/yard. I like em because when I was in Germany I had a BMW 735i. I used to cruise that heavy bastard at 120MPH all day long. I was headed down the Autobahn one day and 2 BMW 850s blew my doors off. I mean they almost pulled me into the left lane. I looked down at the speedo and I was doing about 210 KPH! I can't wait to hear your's run. Now after hearing how you solved the whole computer - carburetor problem I might have to pull one of em and mothball it.

i'm not even close to starting it, but i'd like to build a rat wrecker out of a multi fueled deuce and a half. i like diesels quite a bit. got to get my galaxie up to par and then get on all that.

  8. I love it. Watch out for the PCV valves on the back of the valve covers (facing the firewall), if yours has them.

    Headers:
late 90s stuff had factory tube headers... Don't remember any V12s that way, but the 6 cyl. stuff would get you one side, and the 'next gen' of V12s was not in the showroom yet when I left the dealership, so they may have them (came out in '01 I think).

I'm betting the BMW geeks at Alpina or Dinan have headers on the shelf for your generation of V12. Be ready to weather the sound of your wallet crying out in pain.

Early 90s M5 had an I6 w/ 6 separate throttle bodies. Plastic stuff, but cool looking anyway. I always thought a 12-TB setup would be wicked, with old enderle stacks hanging out past the opposing valve cover. The blower is even better.

And where's that video you were promising? We want to see tire smoke :)

I havent talked to the guys at Alpina, but i did talk to the dinan guys and they said they no longer cary anything for the 5 liter 12 they did held me with ideas for the exhaust. I do know where I can get roller rockers and cams for it. At $14,000 for the set up......

and for the tire smoke I am hoping to be burning tires by the end of july

I'm putting this blown, FI flathead Caddy motor in my '38 Lasalle coupe.

It's strange by most people's standards.

Us guys from Wisconsin must have different tastes. I just ran across an inline 6 volvo diesel that I think I'm gonna put into my '30 fordor. I'm not heavy on the foot but I plan on driving the wheels off of my car. Around 30 miles per gallon sounds better than 9.

  23. It may have already been asked, but how much does that motor weigh? How much power will it make? What is done to the frame to hold it? Looked like in some of the pics it was an unboxed open frame, but it is hard to tell in the pics. By the way, I think it is a bitchin drivetrain and should sound wicked. Just wondering what you have done to assure it is safe in there.

Motor and trans weighs about 300 pounds less than a small block chevy and turbo 350, Motor is expected to put out about 450hp and the truck has undergone many many changes. The frame is fully boxed and heavily braced. The frame was built around that motor.

I think about 15 or 20 years ago someone was developing the Toyota v8 for midget race car use, must have seen it in CC or SCR as an alturnative to the VW flat four..Don't know how far it went but seemed like a neat little engine....

I have a 348 chevy I've been saving in my shed for 10 years for a model A I still don't own. I've also considered the Datsun L series 6 cyl for a hot rod, but it would have to be light. Worked with a guy a few years ago who was deep into Stoodies, may pick up a running V8 from him once i actually get a car worth building in my hands.
