Does anyone know how a torque tube separates from a 3 speed transmission in a 1949-54 chevy application? Does the back of the transmission have to come off?

Remove the bolts at the end of the trans tailshaft. Slip that housing back. Slide the "ball" back and disassemble the u joint. Warning, this is as remembered from 1959.

Removing the 4 bolts on the ball collar is required but if you're removing the rear end you can just disconnect the springs and slide it back and it will slip off the yoke without disassembling the u joint.

Just buy a shop manual and learn. It's not that hard.
