I got one for a corvette but it is VERY different than another one I have. What do I need for a "normal" short water pump? The "corvette" one is longer than the other "short" water pump that I have. I need the shorter one!

Corvette has bigger shaft ... get a flow cooler if you can ... really works on my 55 Chevy

  4. The vette style are also a 3/4 shaft compared to the others that are 5/8.

Everyone is right here ,Theres a short one and then theres a little longer one and then there is the long one .I would look into 69 water pumps .You could make spacers and use a short water pump.

I have the same Corvette water pump and all you need is a drill bit from ace hardware. drill the pulleys and fan out and remove the back of the pump ,support the shaft and use a press to position the pulley mount as needed to line the belts.[IMG]

  11. I have used Flow Cooler water pumps on two of my cars, '70 chevy pickup and '40 ford pickup with sbc, and did not have any line-up problems with either. I will use one on my Model A also.

The Corvette pump which has the pulley slightly farther foward is used on '84 and up Vettes with a serp belt so it doesn't turn in the correct direction for a V belt drive.

Short water pumps were used on all small blocks thru the 1968 model year...some of the truck pumps had a big bypass connection on the top, and I've seen some minor differences in how far the fan hub was pressed on (you can move it a little if you need to, if you have a press).

Like they said, many of the vettes had a larger shaft and bearings, so the pilot is bigger.

  14. I believe short pumps were used in trucks until the end of the 72 model year.

If your building a Tri 5 it doesn't matter wether its a long or short pump if your radiator is mounted in the 6 cylinder position. My 56 with a hard hitting 350, long pump, shroud and stock radiator in the 6 cylinder position you couldn't overheat it if you tried.

  18. it may be hard to believe , but at one time all there was available for water pumps for a SBC was short

a rebuilt Cardone # 58-129 has always served me well on mild sbc's
