Just thought I would share some pics of the progress on the 55 Olds. Started taking everything off that needed to come off about two weeks ago ( Minus windshield and rear window). Been sanding away since then. Replaced the passenger rocker and made the rear quarters solid. Here are some pics from tonight, the roof wasn't in need of any body work so I shot it with some etch-prime. Hopefully it will be in the booth in two weeks, gloss pearl white on top and flat pearl burgandy on rear.

Can't wait to see it in some colour. How did you go about lowering your car?

I think I have settled on gloss pearl white on roof, hood, fenders etc. and a flat burgandy pearl red on the rear. I like the look the flat pearls give off. I may go with some thin white scallops on the bottom. As for the lowering it is on air ride on all four corners. I purchased it from Bopwop a few months ago and have been tinkering with it since then getting the mechanicals good. Put on a new holley fuel pump and sending unit, speedo cable, just little stuff that needed addressed. I hit all of the bare metal spots tonight with self-etch primer, going to work on the passenger rocker tomorrow and shoot the car with hi-build surfacer. Start blocking it straight, then goes on the sealer and paint.

Looks great! Question from a novice though, is that the finished state of your sanding and will you prime right over that after all body work or will you take it all the way down to metal? Thanks

Love this car. Glad to see your giving it the work it needs. I almost bought this car just before you, sent a few emails but I ended up getting my Impala instead. The colors you have picked out sound killer also. If you didn't know all ready I believe this car used to belong to a guy on the HAMB, outta Texas I think. Anyway... Awesome car.

Yes thats as far as it gets sanded. I did the body work in all of the obvious spots first, sanded away all of the scratches and feathered them out. I see no need to take it all the way down to bare steel, this older paint is tough to sand and has good adhesion. The hi-build primer will go on next, followed by hours of block sanding.

Got the high build on tonight, used Evercoat slick sand for the first time. Didnt like how it layed down but i guess it all gets blocked out anyways. Looks like the body is pretty straight at this point. Next goes on a guide coat and start blocking it down. Going to start blocking with 180 then go to 320.

The tires are bias coker classics G-78 I believe they call em. I will be blocking for the next two weeks. Im working full time everyday so I just block a little every morning before work and after. figured that will be enough time to get it straight enough for me. Then it will go to the booth for paint and clear.
