Perhaps a little narrow minded, Slim. The Holden coupe utility vehicle could/can be purchased from any Holden dealership in Australia. Often it is a person's only "car".

Really its just a 2 door version of this

This car will go on record as holding two titles. One official and the other non-official.

First car to travel over 100Kmh and the ugliest thing ever to have four wheels.....still, not bad from an electric auto.

Great thread, certainly for me as an LSR anorak!

Question: would anyone have a picture of the left side of the Hémery Blitzen Benz with which he set the 202.648 km/h speed record at Brooklands?

I have only ever been able to find the right side pictured (picture in this thread as well a few posts higher), but am looking for a definite confirmation of the type of exhaust this record version had!

The Oldfield 1910 version, like the Burman 1911 car, had an exhaust manifold with a muffler, but I have no definite proof that the 1909 Hemery car - which is the same Benz car with the same chassis and engine - had that exhaust as well.

Thanks in advance for any info!

For the best LSR photos, go to www.chevyasylum.com and look under Land Speed Racing. Tons of photos.

Does anyone have a good address for vintage LSR pictures? I am looking for early 1900's?

I have looked at another thread here concerning racers from 1895 to 1940 (or something like that as I do not at this moment recall the exact years) and they have a large number of great LSR pictures among the plethora of vintage photos.

    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,

  13. that is correct. Unbelievable car. set the B/BGCC at 279 or so . They wanted to go faster but they spun this year and pulled teh plug for safety reasons.

This link isn't the "be all" and "end all" of LSR, but it's a good start:

    and this one:

but if you see anything with especially vintage photographs, please think of me, and post the link!

For anyone interested, the very first land speed record car at 39.245 mph set by the count Gaston de Chasseloup-Laubat in the Acheres park near Paris with the first picture of the original car with Michelin "sponsoring" and the second of the replica in the Beaulieu Motor Museum:

Barry Bowles "Blonde Bombshell" SLR car. This is an original 1979 photo of the car still "waiting" for sponsorship funding, to make further attempts on speed of 275 mph in 1977. His earlier attempt to break the LSR failed tragically.
