    39 with a flatty V8?. That's a no-brainer. Trade today, before the other guy wises up!

    I like both cars but at the end of the day I would rather have the '39.
    I do think it is a pretty fair trade on both sides though.

  4. I like the '39s better. But if I was building a gasser or the like I would stay with the A bone. They weigh less.

    Do the trade unless you're emotionally attached to the 29. You've seen the 39 close up and you're aware of the faults if any, and you know the faults of the 29, if any. Go for it or you may kick yourself later.

    If they really are close to equal cars then the 39 would already be in my driveway. I've become sort of fond of 38 deluxe/39 standards over the last 7-8yrs. Don't know why because I always thought they were butt ugly before. I mean I HATED EM. But now I want one. I'm a coupe guy. If I was a money's no object sort my whole collection would be based on coupes. You may be asking the wrong guy having said all that. My post would be "Look what I traded my A for!"

    Before I bought my '40 coupe, I wanted a model A like my first car 44 years ago. I tried to sit in my neighbors' '29 two door sedan. It took a shoe horn to get me in and out. I couldn't get my foot off the gas and onto the brake without hitting the gear shift if I was in reverse. I love the little model "A". But I can get in my '40 easily, and have an auto trans and disc brakes. For comfort (and safety) I went with the '40

    I would go for the 39. Like others I like both a lot but I spend seat time in both a 31 coupe and a 39 Tudor. Both cars have the same drivetrains, warmed over flatheads, toploaders and juice brakes so thats not a factor. Both cars are a blast to drive but the 39 is by far my favorite, it's just sooooo much more comfortable, but then I'm 6'4". Might not feel the same if I was shorter.

    The '38 Standard and Deluxe models also used different front sheet metal and cowls. The '38 Deluxe and the '39 Standard front ends actually look pretty similar. The side moldings are different - the '38 Deluxe has stainless that follows the edge of the hood where the '39 stainless is below the body line. The '38 Standard front end, on the other hand, looks a little bit like a '37 with a pancake-style hood.
    Got that? There'll be a quiz on all this sometime later... :)

    There are a few pieces that will interchange though - I wound up using the diecast centerpiece from a '38 Deluxe grille in my '39 Standard. Most people would never know the difference.

    Sorry for the sidetrack - now, back to your regularly-scheduled thread...

    Again, my vote is to trade the "A" for the '39 if you haven't already! (can I vote twice??)

    Well guys, the deal was made. Tomorrow, I will be the proud new owner of a 39 standard coupe. I hate to see the model a go but my heart was with the 39. Will post pictures of it tomorrow in my driveway.

    I really like that Model A, but I think you made a good trade. Congrats on the new ride. Can't wait to see some pics.

    Good deal. The 39 is so much more "civilized" than the A is. I think your really going to enjoy the new car. Congratulations.
    Your new sig for the time being

    Good jod Olskool;
    If you are an old fart like me, who needs some comfort with his hotrodding, I think you will be pleased with the '39. I've got a '28 sports coupe in my pasture and after reading your post, I'm leaning towards selling it and looking for a '35-37.
