McPhail what are you driving? I saw some ugly cars in Kansas where you live at the Salina show,LOL. Remember those cars that you may think are ugly are most likely loved by there owners. I don't care how much $ thrown into a car, nice or customized you build a car there is always some one out there that will bad mouth it. At a show stand by your own car , act like you don't own it and just listen to what Joe public says about it.Mostly good comments but a few will dog it big time. The real car people that build cars can see how much work went into them and will usually keep there comments to them salves.

  20. It's true! When I was growing up in the '50's there was a distinct "East Coast" look and a distinct "West Coast" look. The East Coasties just seemed to have a penchant for putting together parts from cars with no concern at all for flow....They were Wild to be sure, but far more disjointed than the West Coast cars....It appears as though the tradition continues.....:)

I don't mind seeing even whacky cobbled up, weird stuff that Lead East brings in.
What kills me was the amount of Camaros, GTO, Novas, and Mustangs that were there.
I finally decided to make the trip up there, about 100 miles,, more to see my friends from up north, took my 61 Dodge, a real custom, and then couldn't even get into the show. It was filled. BUt about 1/4 of the cars there really didn't fit the theme of Lead East.
Sucks when you have to park your true Kustom in the spectator lot and then see a bunch of non hot rod, non custom cars in the show. Even saw a 1980's vintage station wagon...just rusty, NOT hot rodded, custom or cool in the least!
    Sad state of affairs.
But like teddyp told me, if we (the old guys with customs) don't show up, the show would really be the dregs!
    sorry...rant over!

This is what I think of when someone says "East Coast Car". One of my absolute favorites!

The owner is from Massachusetts. We take the same parking spots every year (I'm parked next to him). I lose track of the years he's been there with the wagon, it's been at least 5 yrs.
