Hi guys
Have a couple questions about chrome. I tried to get some prices to get my bumpers, grille, etc re-chromed. Asked a few folks on here and got some input as well as doing some research online. Called a couple of places and they told me to send them pictures which I did for a quote. Herein lies the catch and the question. NO ONE has had the courtesy to even respond to my email after specifically instructing me to email them pictures!

My question are this. Are these chrome shops doing so well in this supposed horrible economy that they can ignore potential customers? Has anyone had any business dealings with Bumper Boyz http://www.bumperboyz.com/main.htm in California and are they reputable? I'm figuring that the cost of chroming the front, rear bumpers, grille, etc is going to run me around $3000 ball park. I am way off?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone knows any good chromers in the Albany NY, Western Mass area please let me know.

I havent heard to much good stuff about Bumperboyz. A good shop that dosen't do pot metal, but everything else is Tri-City Plating in Elizabethton Tenn. We use them a lot.

Try Librandi's Plating in Middletown PA it's near Harrisburg. Good people, nice product, fairly priced. I've used them several times with great results.

Pass on bumperboyz! Advanced plating does a hell of a job,but they aren't cheap.

a lot depends on the level of finish you want, if it is for a driver there are still a lot of small local shops that due good work.

The Bumper Boyz are lying pieces of shit who I wouldn't suggest doing any business with whatsoever. They'll tell you one thing and then do another, they're quality is poor and you'll be much better off with a different company.

Chrome is expensive and you get what you pay for, so find a reputable shop and save your pennies.

I hope I wasn't one of the platers you Emailed. I'd feel really bad.

As bad as it sounds, they may not be responding because they get a lot of Email pricing questions with a very small Email-to-actual work ratio. It isn't a very good excuse, but it may give some insight. If you give them a call, they are cornered and must answer. If that fails, then they must not want the business for sure.

Well I'm going to start checking again next week. The places I contacted, I actually called first, and sent a ton of high quality pictures and then followed up with an email asking for a price quote and got nothing. I'll go back and call them all again, but it's a big expense and I don't want to get screwed so I thought I'd ask around here because the folks on here will always point you in the right direction and give you no bull which is great! I'll keep you posted

I'd send it to ChromeplaterJosh. He's bothered to talk to you about it, and shown you examples of his work. Being a Hamber, he's likely to go the extra mile to do a great job for you. Just my opinion.

I vote for tri city/ They will guarantee there work as long as you own the car. Did my 71 olds cutlesss bumpbers for around 800 foru years back and the look realy good.

I use Advanced Plating exclusively now. AWESOME work but like others have said they aren't cheap With chrome plating you get what you pay for and since I'm keeping my car for a long time the investment was well worth it.

I took some quarter window garnish moldings to them, that were painted and in excellent shape. They said it would be 12 weeks! I was not in a rush so I called after 13 weeks and they were not done for another 2 weeks. They did do an excellent job, at a cost of $300 plus tax. I will not go back.

I forget who I used, but he was good, polite, professional and very helpful. BUT he wasn't quick with the email ~ then again, I'm an over caffeinated new Yorker, so I might not be a good judge.

I will say this about any business, if they don't care enough to answer your email, they don't care about you or the work they do for you.

Like I said, my guy wasn't quick, but he got back to me each and every time and treated me like his best customer for a small ($300) job.

I used Palitos Plating in Seagoville, Tx, 16 parts and got them back in 3 days, had to have 2 parts redipped, overall the finish was really nice and only spent 750.00

My parts have been at the plater for 10 months so far for a 34' w/s frame and a set of Dodge hemi valve covers. Good thing I'm not in a rush!

You didn't say whether or not you'd want to ship something across the country but Speed and Sport in Houston does excellent work. Very fairly priced and delivered on time. Just picked up a set of Corvette rears.

Ive heard good things about Advanced plating in TN, but I plan to try chromeplaterjosh for the teeth on the 51 F1 PU Im builing for my daughter. I called and researched Advanced Plating and if you are willing to spend the cash, they seem to be to top of the business, but I plan to give him a try bacause he seems to offer better service and effort, and looks to really care.

He doesnt know it yet.... shhhhhhhhhhh! Im not that far to need to make stuff pretty yet.

As far as slow responses from platers,yeah tuff economy, but not when it comes to our rides.
