Sort of like wishing you has some dope ass K-Swiss sneakers, but since you can't afford them you painted your feet white.

I painted my luvs tires with a rustoleom latex white spray paint and they stayed white for a long time with minimal cracking. Here is the tires after three months <a href=http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p88/air_fox03/?action=view&current=luv2-1.jpg target=_blank><img src=http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p88/air_fox03/luv2-1.jpg border=0 alt=></a>

I used Kilns white primer, it has lasted quite some time. I tried some other paints but they turned brown pretty quickly. Kilns stated on the can that you could prime asphalt with it so I figured it would work on black tires.

I would like to have real WWWs but I can't really afford them and I also wanted to see what the truck would look like with WWWs before I dished out the money. I have a set of cheap Mexican tires on my panel so I couldn't really make less valuable.

yeah same here, i got alot of tread left of these tires so why not see how www look for 12 bucks i says to my self.
guess ill see just how long they will last

but useing a brush was alot easyer than tapein and sprayin them i bet

  17. Ain't nothing wrong with going with what you can afford. I, myself was considering Port-a-walls, but I've been told that they don't work with radial tires. Another source said that they would be okay with the size of sidewalls that I'm running (215/75/14). Don't know who to believe. Guess I'll just run blackwalls for a while.

K-Swiss? WTF?!? Who wears them things, unless you're a yuppie pansy.

haha, in my day it was the hip hopper types who sported Kswiss.

    not sure nowadays

ive heard the same thing about portawalls, that they will fly off at freeways speeds. so i didnt mess with em.

Silly question, If they look like shit can the white paint be removed? How hard is it to get it back to "normal" if you are unhappy with it....

Grinding works really well, as long as you have white to start with. I used a 4" 50 and then a 2" finishing wheel. There is NO loss of structural integrity. I could have taken the white to the rim, but decided they look cool this way. It's a lot easier with the wheels off the car, BTW.

i wouldnt put ports on a radial tire unless it was super tall sidewall. a guy i know put them on his car while it was in the air it looked awsome and seemed like they would work but soon as he put the car on the ground they ports bubbled out.

I did portawalls. They look good. I've heard they will flap or fly off, but so far they are still holding steady. I put them on 14" tires with 70 side wall. I'm thinking about putting a set on my 69 lincoln also.

yeah i know alot of folks go the grinding route , and i have heard both sides of it taking away integrity or not,
but my tires are gettin kinda on the old side so i did want to take any chances.

but nice job though, looks really good!

Thanks, BTW I did not use the grinder on my kid's
hair. Even though that would have been pretty 'traditional" punk rock.

I ran them back in the 60's (porta-walls). We called them Mickey Mouse whitewalls, Hey, thats all I could afford. They stayed good for a long time. never had them come off at speed. Don't know about the radial thing though. Good Luck... Bowtie40

The last set of portawalls I used, in the early Sixties, were made of some sort of flexible white plastic, not rubber, only set I ever seen. They lasted up well, didn't get dirty, and the rigidity of the plastic probably kept them on. Dunno why they don't make something like that today. I used a product from Iceland for my tires. I got the website from an issue of Ol Skool Rodz a few years ago. I painted my tires 4 years ago and have not had an issue with the paint peeling or turning brown or yellow.

In order to clean the brake and road grime off the tires I just use Wesleys Bleach White and it comes right off with no issue. The paint just brushes on but when it is dry it is the consistancy of rubber. The little bit that dried on the side of the can when I was done streched like a rubber baloon.

Here is the web site and a pic of my tires how they are now.
