Here's mine, just traded a 1970 Pontiac Strato chief with lot's of motor for something much much cooler, getting dropped 2" front and 4" rear tommorow Monster tach is getting swaped for a sunpro sweep, retarted signal light thing is coming off, and billet shift knob is going away for something more rustic....oh....im Dave, im the new guy, nice to meet ya.....i love cars....
My dad worked at a restoration shop for many years. A lot of cars came and went, but my favorite car that I got to see up close was a '56 Olds Starfire convertible. This is over million-dollar Ferraris, muscle cars, hot rods, etc. This car was just amazing in white and lavendar, I believe the color was called Persian Sand. I did a quick search for a picture and I am 99% sure that this is the car. I'm telling you, it was just gorgeous. http://www.kars.com/categories/olds/5721AP.html What's the story on that all-blue '56 98 hardtop above? I could really see myself in it.
My new boots and stance...yes i know red wheels are played out...unless you have never had em, then there shiny and new....
Great thread! Check out a book called "The Cars of Oldsmobile” by Dennis Casteele. It is discontinued, but you can still find them on Amazon. 57 Olds 88 in my avatar.
This is a sad story about one that got away. I had an O/T truck for sale and a dude from Tulsa called, said he definitely wanted it and would I trade? He said I could choose between a '57 chevy or '58 olds. I loaded up my truck and hauled it all the way there. He showed my his Grandpa's dream, a pink '58 olds Super 88 convertible that had been stored for amost 30 years. Grandpa was a tinkerer, never had the means to get the car going well passed and the guy couldn't do anything with it. There was almost another whole car in parts including a complete J2!!! I was stoked, his wife wasn't. I even offered cash plus the truck but no go. We left a little angry and sad. I called a few months later and made another offer but still no go. Here's a sorry pic, the entire garage was packed with parts for this car...
If you look at the tail lights of a 56 88 and a 56 98 you will see the diference between the two. The 98 are longer and have a chrome strip down the middle.
Has anyone with a 56 Olds done a complete rewire with an aftermarket kit like painless or EZ wiring? I have a 98 Holiday Sedan with all the power componets like seats windows etc. Just wondering if anyone could recommend a kit they have had experience with first hand.
I sold my 54 years ago to build my F85 into a race car, now I want another 54-56 to build into a race car , sick circle I know . That blue one would look better in my garage with a nice 455 . For the wiring question , I have used Larrys electric and EZ wire and Painless, not a fan of the painless connections or switches . EZ wire and I think Larrys wires are labled directly onthe wire throughout the length of the wire , Larry has been great help in the FI conversions to
56 has always been a personal favorite .I had a junkyard with about 100 Oldsmobiles all from 53 to 58..I had real good luck with 56 98s.
What size lug pattern does the '56 Olds run? I think it's 5 on 5, just want to make 100% sure. Thanks!!
My 56 Olds, bought it as a high school graduation present to myself 8 years ago, all original except for paint, currently going through a complete re-do. olds.jpg n650671436_730608_5441.jpg
Not true. The grilles are ENTIRELY different. The side molding is different. The rear bumber is different. The '57 windshield is a larger version of the 'wrap-around' windshield than the one used on the '54, '55 and '56.
The 98 had a longer body, and was fancier, but had the same horsepower as the Super 88. The 88 and the Super 88 had the same body, but the 88 had less horsepower than the Super 88.
