i've always had a love affair with 53/54 chevy hardtops. i've been looking for a long term project and came across this baby the other day, 53 bel air. it's surprisingly solid, the only real rust is in the rear lower panels, and some in the trunk area. the floors are solid and everywhere else seems to be just surface rust. the front fenders, hood and bumper came with it, as did 2 rear glass, spare (nice) windshield, misc. door glass, nice fender skirts and a few other misc. parts. the trim is all suuper nice too and all there. it's a powerglide/power steering car too. plans are to be a nice mild custom. gonna run a 235 and keep the powerglide. right now i'm pretty pumped. the price was way right and i'm committed to the idea that it will be a long term thing. what do you guys think? did i dun good?:D

Cool but I don't see a photo. One of those has always been on my "if I had room in the garage" list.

Nice score. I was looking for a 53/54 hardtop when I found my 38 ford.

Looks good but the fender is in the wrong place. can't go wrong with a 53/54 imo.

  12. I think somebody took advantage of you. I hate to see that happen. Give me directions to your house and I will come take that piece of junk off your hands so you can get back to looking for a decent ride. Surely you know I'm kidding. It'll make a superb ride. Good luck in your build.

thanks eric. i'm feeling pretty strongly about not chopping it but shit-who knows. the more i see cedric's 54, the more it's like "dang....that looks good, maybe i should.." who knows.
    ?
thanks for the link. i heard clayton has a 235 in the same price range he might part with too. we'll see what shakes down. whatever i end up with will be getting a legit rebuild too. i want this car to be nice!

Very cool dont see many hardtops in oz,front seat looks uncomfortable!

  23. You need to chop it and drag the tail. Column shift and a dual carb set up, Cast iron headers and some other cool chev ohv6 stuff. One of those valve covers where the ribs continue down the front & back. Everyone's got an opinion but if you lived around the corner I'd be over at your house staring at it.

  24. Nothing too severe, make it look like the factory chopped it.

cool find......I got a 4 door 53 and it aint no hardtop[coupe] but i still love it.....you guys have got it good with all those coupes......Bert

  26. DON't chop the top...it'll ruin the proportions. However, you MIGHT consider dropping the rear of the top an inch or two...and dropping the rear. Have you considered '56 Packard tail lights?...

Or that "Other Moonglow" chevy the one that was super low and had no interior with no chop. that car ruled too!
