I went to a local car show in Placerville California last night. My dad showed up in his 1960 Ford Starliner 360 hp 352 that he bought brand new. We were there about a half hour and another one drove up! Yep, another 1960 Ford Starliner 360 hp 352 that the guy bought brand new. I couldn't believe it, in a show of about 20 cars, we had two original owner Starliners. It was pretty cool. Mike
Starliner's are rare enough but 2 of the 360 HP 352s at the same show is something special. I have an old magazine that detailed all of the special HIPO parts that made up that combination. It was a lot more than just special manifolds.
My dad's is the white one. The other one is real dark blue. Yes, very unusual to see two at the same place. This is also the only high performance 352 I have ever seen, other than my dad's. Yours looks great! Love the color and low stance. That 352 was the first Ford engine to develop more horse power than cubic inches and really the only 352 that was worth a damn, performance wise.
That '60 was the only Ford in those collective years that didn't sport round taillights. There was a light blue beauty around Santa Clara in '60, mild kustom. Talk of the town. The '60 Starliner has to be the rarest of all the Starliners. (I bought a new '61, don't see many of that year either)
A friend's dad was a sales manager at the local Ford dealership back in that time period. I remember he and I getting to take out a new starliner. It was maybe a year or two newer and I think the motor was a high pro 406? Does that sound right? Nice cars
In Sacramento, 1969, I did an engine for a gent with a Dodge Power Wagon. He gave me an engine that had belonged to his brother, who was killed before he could use it...it was a complete 427 Side Oiler, with the 8V system. An employee of mine helped me install it in my white '54 Ford Coupe. Man, what a runner! At full throttle, it felt and sounded like it was gonna suck the hood down the carburetors! Give me a 427 any time! Wish I still had it for my '63-1/2 Galaxie...
The 1960 352 HiPo was the first ford engine without a power adder to develop more HP than cubic inches. Pretty impressive first.
Ha! You're right! On an unrelated note.....the dark blue Starliner had an underdash record player in it. He bought the player in 1961. I had never seen an underdash record player. It played 45's. Pretty cool. Mike
I think that pertains to only '60 Fords that have had three times their value spent on cosmetics. Kind of metrosexualish.
This reminds me of a night at the Mighty Mo. A friend had a 60 Starliner (I don't remember the engine) It was jacked up in the rear which was popular at that time and he painted the rear end white! Someone was giving him some shit about his white rear end and he said if you can beat it I'll paint any color you want. There was no race that night.
Steady,..steady,...hold it,.....THERE! I think you got that hair split fine enoughLOL I gOtta agree though. the MEL is a useless boat anchor orphan t-bird is forced induction, shouldn't be in the running at all.
Ha, ha, ha! Hair splitting is my specialty, ask my wife. OK, the 1960 352 HiPo is the second Ford engine to produce more HP than cubic inches. but the first without a power adder
I started out to clone the 360/352 for my early 60s era build, 56 sedan, but I ended up using the Edelbrock 3 deuce setup. The cast iron headers won't fit in my 56 frame. I used to think that they were 406 manifolds but they came on the 360-352 first.
