Check out Interstate BBQ in Memphis,TN.
In Nashville,TN , the Lane Museum is really good.
If you make it to Cody ,WY the Buffalo Bill Museum is killer.I wish I'd spent a whole day there.
Maybe I'll see you on the salt.If you want to help keep the salt off of your wheel wells, spray pam on the wheel wells.(An old rental car trick ;-) )

i can't wait to take them!

argh. 3 days. the plus side is that i will likely put in about 45 hours at work in the next 3 days. so time will fly. the project at work that is taking up so much time is the culmination of months of work. so i am excited about it too. but the road is really calling me...

So tell us about the ride you are taking. I'm curious to see the motor/tranny combo etc.

root, i'll try to get a pic of it on here before we take off. but it's nothing special. i have a thunderbird motor with a c-4 going in it this winter, hopefully. and that'll be a screamer.

but for now, it's the original 239ci y-block. 60k original miles with about 25k on a rebuild. the p/o is said to have put a mild cam in it when it was done. and he claims 160hp vs the stock 135ish. i dunno how true that all is, but it runs great. still has the original oil bath air cleaner. it's a very unassuming car. 2spd fordomatic, thunderbird manifolds with duals all the way back running through brockman mellow-tones. sounds great!

dad and i put a '57 9 inch out back, and it's got 3 inch lowering springs from jamco in the rear too. up front, we did a fatman disc kit with 2 inch lowered coils. it all runs on mid 80s 15x8 cop car wheels (for the width and the offset, with the slightly wider rearend) with the original '54 trim rings and dog dish caps.

cruises 60-65 comfortably, and gets about 17-18 mpg.

    pics coming in the AM.

Well, Mark, Im heading west for the weekend (western mass that is) So I probably wont be on for a couple days so have a safe and totally radical honeymoon! Keep in touch as much as you can and I will be awaiting a powerpoint presentation at your place when you get home!!

  24. Mark, we leaving Denver Thursday mid-day, I-80 to Laramie to SLC.
Probably stay in SLC Thursday night, and drive in to Wendover on Friday.

    Cant wait!!

  25. Mark,

Almost forgot to tell ya that since you are going to do a lot of partying along the way to B'ville and at B'ville better to stop at the duty free at the border crossing and get some of that TAX free Liquor, beer, and smokes if you partake.

  26. I assume when you say "Thunderbird Motor" you mean yo will still have a Y-Block, that and a C-4 is a good combo but you might want to consider an AOD. It's a better way to go if you haven't got the C-4 and adaptor yet. Stop by our camp on the salt or the Bend and we can talk Y-Blocks, if that doesn't bore Becky. lol Have a good trip! ;)

mike-we should be in laramie thursday night, after leaving omaha that morning. we should roll into wendover friday dinner time-ish.

mctim- my dad already had the c4 rebuilt and the adapter made, so it' stuff i have. and yes, the thunderbird motor is a 312 bored to 317, i believe. couldn't possibly give up the y-block.

    day 1-

after 32 hours of overtime between friday and saturday, we finally woke up fairly rested this morning and hit the road. i put the 54 in becky's parents' garage before our long haul work schedule, so we pulled out from framingham about 8:30. we cruised out the mass pike and took 90 to buffalo, and then followed signs for some little waterfall. we took that in a bit, then pressed on to a little town in ontario called brantford. it's late, i'm tired. but we had a blast because work is behind us for 18 days, and there's nothing ahead but adventure. the car performed flawlessly. sounded great, gave no trouble. here are some pics. not many captions. like i said, i'm tired. but it's a GOOD tired. :)

we wanted to get to new york so bad, we almost missed the sign!

the pivot on the wing window whistled so bad it was driving us nuts. becky's solution:

go to the salt and the hamb drags without pops? not a chance.

    entering canadia!

    umm, right?

Awesome! How'd ya like Niagra Falls? The Canadian side is so much better then the filth that consumes the American side....at least that's how I remember it when I live in Buffalo.

it was my 3rd time to niagara. it's really built up since the last time i came here. lots of casinos and weirdness. but, nice and clean. full of happy people. it's good. kinda like a cross between cape cod and vegas.
