Thanks captain obvious but in case you were not aware Halibrand made more than one style of rear end.

That looks like the super rare 1932 roadster only Ford Racing Products(tm) magnesium quickchange center section.
Story is that there were only 2 ever cast for use on the new Ford Roadster V8's to be competitive in the 24 hours of Le Mans, planned by the Ford marketing group as the way to show the Europeans that the new American V8 could out compete them on their own turf. The race was never run though, because the technical inspection at Le Mans noted the non stock parts and send the team packing.
This one seems to have had someone do some alterations, probably to disguise it's uniqueness and make sure no-one would steal it.

Looking at the pictures I'm sure that's what it is, diguised as a Halibrand V8.

Hope you read this better then you looked at the part, sarcasm could get to you.

Halibrand V8. Fits in a Ford rear from 35-48. No sarcasm included.

    Close but no cigar....

It has the short tail section and short snout, making it a Model A/Midget Type 101. It should have 101 cast on the bottom spine and the side cover bolt circle diameter is 9" whereas the V8 Type 201 is 9.25".

    Type 101 Midget/Model A is bottom unit in pic 1, Type 201 V8 is top in Pic 1. Pics 2 & 3 are Type 101

    Type 201 V8 below:

Here for comparison are the overall lengths - Type 101 Midget/Model A is 13.5" and Type 201 V8 is 16.25" approx.

    Hope this clarifies the identity.

    A little more info:

    Type 101 ModelA/Midget takes 1928-34 Ford axle tubes/sidebells, Type 201 V8 takes 1936-40 axle tube/sidebells.

Type 101 good up to around 300 hp, Type 201 good up to around 400 hp. (Type 301 Champ up to 600 hp).

  9. Measure the diameter of the bell bolt pattern. I don't remember 101's having a pinion support. My 101H defiantly did not have a pinion support. I am leaning toward a 101 because of length and toward 201 because of the pinion support.

    Weasel-

Your 101 case pictures do not show a pinion support.

show us the other side of the case and picture any factory markings on the main case.looks like a nice piece!NOS ?

  11. It's a H201 V8 Halibrand - you can see the pinion support through the smoked plastic covering the side bell opening . . .

  12. The snout on the front also doesn't come straight down tangent off the OD of the case like a 101.

I'm not an idiot Weasel. Look at the pics he showed and tell me again what kind of centersection it is. It's a V8 center. Period.

    It is a 201 V8 Center.

Flip it and read the markings on the bottom center. Should be stamped right on it.

    Thanks,
