Defnitely not a '34... Either '32 or '33 but I can't tell from those pics. A side shot to see the depth would produce the answer. Are there raised slots around the edge of the grille for a trim piece?

    It's a '32 commercial shell.

  8. 32's pictured when the car was in primer are narrower than the 33's and 34's as shown with the car in paint

Not by much but it is noticeable and I was told that the 32's didn't have a trim ring... however mine had the holes for that ring!

Could it be because it was from a Pick up?

So what are the exact year-by-year differences in these shells then? Is '34 the slightly sloped version? How do you tell a '32 from '33?

    its a 33 grille

32 and 33 are close, but the 33 is thicker, and 33 has two crank holes in the bottom (on the inside), 32 only has one

34 truck grille has a stainless steel trim around the grill bars so there are holes for clips and they have a bolt on chrome peice were the badge and rad cap go.

i can tell just at a quick glance

Wingnuts, i would assum someone drilled the holes for the clips, ive had about 5 32 commercial shells and not one have or had the trim

  11. Hey Jeff.. is my old shell a 32 or a 33?

It's definitely not as thick as a 34 but it has the slots for the trim ring clips???

Is there a difference between the Pick ups and the commercials?

your old shell was a 32

the 33 and 34 are the same thickness, 34 just has the chrome bezel and the trim

ive always considered pick ups as commercial,

they also had painted headlight buckets too

  13. Yep, titus nailed it. 33 grill
