I need some insight from you guys on what a 49 ford Flathead engine and trans are worth. An elderly gentleman and his grandson came into my shop today and have a 49 ford two door complete rolling frame, engine and trans he would like to sell. Story goes, he had plans to restore the car, but it never happened. It has been in the garage for something like 20 years. 10 years ago the grandsons started to chop the car up, I am not really sure what that means, but the body is gone. All that is left is the complete chassis. I told him I would be interested in the engine and trans but not the frame. I assume the engine should be an 8BA, and he said it is all complete and was running 20 years ago. He is willing to give me the whole works for what I would give him for the engine, that way it could be put on a flatbed and delivered to my shop. He has no idea what its worth and asked what I would offer him. I believe he will take whatever I offer him. I am not looking to steel it from him and would like to offer him a fair price.

$500 tops. Less if the engine is stuck. O. D. would be a plus.

$300 with trans. If he'll let you pull the heads and intake to check for cracks it would be worth no more than $500 if all looks good. The trans is only worth a c note.
