My first '32 Ford...some rust issues....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RMR&C, Jul 22, 2010.

  1. Picked up a '32 Ford 2dr sedan the other day...not quite sure why. I'm thinking I might be able to save the frame, IF it's not too rusty. This car sat in a local river for 30+ years so the body is complete garbage....severely rusted. I'm thinking I may straighten it out a little bit and make a sign for my shop....or maybe yard art. What do you think?

It looks like they used the jaws of life on tha back side and left it in a creek when they finished.

    Hey,

A door skin or two, some work on the Sail Panels, and a little work to align up and straighten the roof opening........................looks like much more fun than a Brookvillain clone or a shower tub enclosure masquerading as an automobile!

Ah, but I usually only find them after some evil putz has cut them to pieces figgerin' he'll cut a fat hog sellin' off the pieces, a pox on him, I say!

Holy Crap!! You must have driven to Michigan or Minnesota to pick up that jewell....surely not picked up on the Montana plains.:D Also looks like the old girl was in a pretty intense fire at some point.

I have a set of passenger fenders and running boards for that car....and a VERY ROUGH driver's door. (Cheeeep).

    PM me for details.

A whole shitload of time and some replacement panels..but it's fixable if you're not in a hurry. Looks like you'd probably have to replace about 60% of it with good metal as it looks really thin...but what the hell..it's a duece

  22. Hey Russ....no, I wouldn't have driven very far to get this heap! It came out of the Flathead river...same as my coupe. I don't think you guys realize how rusty this thing is. You can see daylight through every panel!!!!!

Go visit some of the "bondo abuse" threads, and take the worst of the stories there not as precautionary tales of what not to do, but your working plan for this body :)

Actually you can use fiberglass on the back and bondo on the top where it's paper thin, and get something that looks like a body out of parts of this... not something very strong though.

  28. I could use the drivers side header corner if your going to 'pus out' on fixing that 'Lingerie tudor'...........yeah I said pus out, I aint working with much better than that :)

Park that sucker on a burm in the front yard with some nice boulders and plants, a little ground cover and the pleasure you will get from the conversations it will generate will last for years.
