This was what i did today
The first rollout of my V12, under its own power [IMG]
Still have some sorting out to do, mainly with the coolingsystem. [IMG]

Had i minor leak today when i was warming up the engine, the connection to the auxillary tank engine was temporary plugged with some tape [IMG] (has been like that for two years, and worked OK)

But i can't wait for the icy roads to melt away.

    Sound and moving pics here

Woah...Reminds me of pictures I've seen from Sweden of old ice racers! Looks like big fun. Sorry if you already talked about it, but what is that engine?

Its a Rover Meteor MK4B Centurion tank engine.
    V12 27 Litre 650 hpr 1550 lb./ft at 1500rpm

The engine was built by Rover using Rolls Royce merlin Blueprint's

Like a Packard built Packard Merlin for the P51 Mustang.

Nice job, kinda like EJ Potter, the Michigan Madman who first ran a methanol injected small block chevy in a bike frame (Direct drive, no clutch or transmission) and then an Allison V12 aircraft motor in a Dodge Dart wagon.

    thats insane.

so are you going to put headers on it or what? i dont know much about these kinds of engines? are they safe to run off the heads without messing up the valves?

i bet its quite loud to say the least

I was surprised to see your choice for transmission, driveshaft, and rear axle.

When 1500 ft lbs of torque kicks in, what is going to go boom first?

I am not trying to be a smart ass. I am putting a Continental AV-1790-5B (air-cooled tank engine) into an old firetruck. I have had serious doubts as to whether the firetuck transmission will go boom, the first time I gas it.

LOL , I remember EJ and his V8 bikes, the "Widowmakers". He drove (or flew) a jetbike with a cruise missile engine ! He also had a few cars and tractors...he had this thing called the Jolly Green Giant, it had an F4 Phantom engine in it.

    Thank God for nuts [IMG]

Thanks for the replies, I know im crazy and i feels goooood [IMG]

Regarding the drivetrain, it will break as soon as i put the pedal to it.

But the concept of this "car" is to be able to move it around under its own power. An make a lot of noice.
Im also building this on a budget, and have taken stuff that i had laying around, or got for free.

If i would have tried to get some of the power down to the road. Id probably would have chosen some Truck transmission.

Or taken a look at the Tractor pulling crowd, they use a lot of these engines without breaking up (the drivetrain)

A friend of mine is building one to and he has used a 4WD reduction box turned backwards to double the outgoing revs from 3000 max to 6000. And then feed it into an allison bus automatic. He havent driven his yet so i cant tell if it works ok.

Finaly regarding the valve problem. It states in the manual that you should run the engine hot. Remove the stubs.
and then adjust the carbs so you get a 6" blue flame out of the exhaust ports. And the P51 Mustang,Lancaster bomber's where running the Merlin engine for hours with just short stubs, without major problem as i understand.

So i dont think its a a major problem, and im not planning to run hundred of miles like this. And i will make stubs also. just wanted to see if i could get it running.
