Hot Rods Too weird Nash Metro....chime in

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bob myers, Jun 30, 2010.

  1. You are the person that you have to make happy, not us! If the deal feels/tastes/smells/looks good to you, why not?

Dated or not, the idea of a stretched Met is cool as hell - this, coming from a former owner of two stock Mets.

Little paint a wheel change and eleminate the remnants of the 80's would go a long way....

I like it personally, but I gotta thing for em...I started stuffing a 460 in one and lost interest in the project (Read I was over my head at the time a long 19 years ago....I'd forge ahead today though!)

    I can't imagine driving a stock wheelbased V8 metro....

  3. I wouldn't trade, but it doesn't really matter..it's not my decision.

I think if you like the Metro then trade for it. I think it's cool but I like small cars. A little tidying up and it could be a blast to have.

just another opinion but, based just on the pictures posted, I have to go with the crowd. I think your current vehicle is the best deal.

I'd want to check into HIS motivations....maybe he has already discovered what so many on here have mentioned to you - there's just not a lot of appeal in having this sort of car - it doesn't really fit into anything but a circus freak category. I'll bet he's looking for what you already have...a nice hot rod, under construction that is more in line with "more value, less garish gaudy cacaphony of color and discordant design". I know you didn't really ask for opinions or guidance, but if you're really a HOT RODDER, why would you want to own something that is clearly NOT a hot rod.

As we used to say when someone told us "well, it's different" - yes, but so is a two-headed elephant, but what do you do with one?

Keep your hot rod, and your sanity. Lots of attention is not always a good thing. You'll become "that dude with the weird Metro...ya know?"

  7. Your '48 is cool. That metro looks like a damned weinermobile. Keep the Ford.

I'd trade and wouldn't think twice.... it would be neat to try and put it back a few years in time with some Halibrands and some 5-spoke spindle mounts or something vintage and some old school lettering. Maybe radius the rear wheel openings.

It MIGHT be OK as a drag only machine but I feel the novelty of it on the street will soon wear off. I'd bracket race that dude and have a ball.

The Metro is now a local car that came from Michigan about 5 years ago and has been in the owners garage since then. The present owner has plenty of dough and lots of toys and said that he wants a traditional car that he can drive when the urge hits him. I know the Metro is dated and weird, but it is well built. I also realize the car has extremely limited use and I would never even consider a trade if I didn`t have other cool cars. My plan is to have a little fun with the car, bracket race it once or twice, detail it and do some paint work to match the Hot Wheels Metroliner car and then try to pedal the car to a car themed tourist attraction or museum. I`m not sure my ego can handle any more, but lay it on me.....more thoughts?

your sedan is and allways will be cool, i think the novelty of the nash would be lost fairly quickly,

  12. I like weird shit...

I would do it, but thats just me.

The idea of a stretched Metro rocket ship and be able to experience the "G's" when I stomp down on the pedal gives me goosebumps...

Make your own choice and have fun with it if you do.

I know the guy that built that one. Don't have a picture but he also took a wedge section out of the front end that gave it a nice funnycar rake and it looked a lot better than this one, IMO.

I'm done....if you have other cool cars to drive, and you've absorbed about as many opinions as there are postings, then go for it. I can understand the fun factor, as long as you still have a real hot rod to use for ID with the other guys.

I like your plan to see if Hot Wheels would be interested in leasing it. or buying it if you finished it to those specs. A true sign of burgeoning entrepreneurship.

Well you said, "chime in". Following my mama's old
adage about 'if you can't say something mice'......I'd
have to say that Metro is ...um...er....."interesting".
    Yeah, that's the ticket.....it's "interesting". It's an
abomination and an abortion on wheels,.....but it's
    "interesting"

Here is an update on the Metro. I agreed early on to make the trade, the Metro guy wanted to clean up some wiring on the Metro and I was to paint my sedan black primer. I did so right away, metro dude drags his feet. After three weeks I wanted out of the deal, but gave my word so I wasn`t going to bail. Metro dude continues to drag on two more weeks so I called him [always have to leave message] and tell him "I am getting less excited about trading as each day passes, please call." You guessed it, no return call, no word, no FU, nothing. I guess he wanted to back out early and figured he would stall until I bailed. No sweat, I really love driving the car, I am keepng it. I just took the sedan to a friends place for a headliner and I can`t wait to get it home to apply a full flame job. When I get er flamed I will post pics in this thread as an update. Thank the lord and the Hamb for helping me avoid a move I was destined to regret.

I think it would be very difficult to flip that car if you get tired of it.

Maybe you both were dragging your feet a little. Sounds like neither of you were in love with this deal.
