Where were you in '62? My first car was a '53 Customline flathead cost was $25.I was taking High School auto shop and needed a project, wish I had Pics of the transformation.I worked in a Drive-In and got a lot of goodies from Honest Charlie and Almquist catalogs. The pic is right after getting it and me a 100 pounds lighter. Still doing old Fords and moderate the 52-56 Ford social group here and working on a '54 Customline project.

Great pictures guys - keep them coming - when I was 13 my older cousin graduated from HS and bought himself a new '63 Impala SS red white interior convertable w/ 327 & 4 sp. first thing he did was take off the hub caps, put on some cutouts, then the final touch raised the front end so high he had to stick his head out the side window to drive Ha!

ha ha. I also had a 55 in high school in 66-67. primer black with red and white metalflake interior. I also had a three speed behind a very stout 327. dual quad cross ram, crower cam etc. after about the third set of gears in the trans the case would warp to the point of not being able to remove the shafts. local wreaking yard always had a few trans ready for me when I came in. 50 bucks a piece. never did buy a 4 speed. car was only beaten once. 1/2 a length by a new super bee with build 383 mag. those were indeed happy days. wish I still had pics of mine. your's is very cool. thanks for sharing.

You and I should have a PM conversation... I dont know anyone who was around Merced back then, as my parents didnt move here until 1979.

Im a little young for the thread, but to bump it back up....

Here is a truck that Merced PD/SO knew very well when I was in HS, in '98-'00.... Hey, atleast the truck is from the '50s, right?

I bought this 1939 Standard model coupe from the original owner in 1965 and drove her to graduation and the first two semesters of college. I still own her and she is currently under going a full frame off restoration.

My first car (got it in '67 when I was 15) was a '40 Ford coupe. It is on its fourth engine/trans combo, third suspension setup, fourth interior, and maybe it's sixth paint job since I've had it. It is leaking on my driveway as I type this. I drove it to breakfast this morning, and it will get me to school in the morning. I don't think I have a single snapshot of it from when I was in high school.

I paid $20 for this 55 Poncho in 1969 while I was in the Navy in San Diego, drove the wheels off it and left it parked on the street when we shipped out later that year. I saw it again 6 months later in Subic Bay PI...some other squadron/ship took it overseas with them and were using it for an inport vehicle. That car is probably still running!

Wow, this is a cool thread. Lots of neat cars from out of the past and cool stories to go along with them.

I'll throw in a pic of my ol' '49 Fleetline. Pics taken in 1958. I painted it in the backyard with a borrowed spray gun. Tijuana tuck-and-roll. Bored out 216 with alluminum pistons. A buddy and I made 2" dropped spindles and cut 2 coils out of the front suspension. I stacked 2" blocks on top of 4" blocks for the rear. Drove it for 4 years and wish I'd kept it.

That car didn't come into my life until my second year in college. I would have rode the bus to high school before I would and add insult to myself or get beat up. Beside the campus cops thought it was cool. They would stand at attention and salute when I drove by!

    1964.

My 1956 Ford Mainline Business Coupe. Cragar 15 in wheels. 272 4 bbl, dual exhaust, 3-speed manual transmission. Had a padded cushion made for the platform (no back seat, a true business coupe), ... a drive-in special.

Damn, that was a fun car!!!

I still have the same original hood from my high school ride pictured below!!!
