As dragged home on Thursday: Approx 23 hours later: & todays addition: Wood still needs to be fastened together, given a coat or 4 or Spar varnish.. & I'm very likely going to change the shape of the side pieces. Not too shabby for a freebie. I'm the 3rd owner.
cool, I like salvaging stuff like that, like the idea of the wood top. ...might want to round the back corners after putting in a reinforcing block on the inside? got a couple smaller (hand carry), old tool boxes to redo, myself.
I went to Lowes to pick up some 3/4 plywood for the top, but found a 20x48 pine tabletop that was a couple of bucks cheaper than a 24x48 piece of ply. I thought about what you suggested with the rear corners, but I kinda like the square inside corners. Probably going to use it to store my vintage tools
My Dad has my Grandpa's tool box just like that that is full of his old craftsman tools he used it for 30+ years as a mechanic it has the matching top box
Damn neon... Why you gotta be such a Negative Nancy? Looks good man, leave the dents, they add character.
It's double skinned so the options were bondo or getting stuck into it with the stud welder etc. I did take the large dent out of the right side.
Nice werk ,,the little dents DO add charactor ,,glad you left em as is ,, i still have the Snap-On top tool box i bought new in'67 ,,,dents w' racing decals on it ,,trying to decide if i should restore it ,,or leave it as is ,,Snap-On will arentee the slides with brand new ones ,,life time warrentee you see,, ,,
I liked it patina'd personally. Old boxes are so cool if you ask me. You chose a nice, vintage color for it at least other than the nasty Craftsman red. Nice box for sure.
Ex wife left her foam exercise mat here when I chucked her out so that wil be sacrificed as drawer liners
