We're getting ready to letter the Chevy II and I reheeheely want to use something in a blue/mirrored finish. The problem is finding something like that with a decent life span. Everything the supplier I've been using has is limited to 6-12mo. I can clear over that, but that only doubles (questionable) the lifespan. Anyone have any options for me? Help a brother out! We're going to copy/tribute this job, 'WE' is me and (mostly) the guy who originally lettered the Falcon....Hint...he's older-n-dirt!
II hope you're not going to put vinyl on that bitchin Nova . Do yourself a favor ,and find a good lettering pro. That car deserves the real deal !
Very cool, I like the old Falcon also. Do you plan on racing the Chevy? Also as far as vinyl I put it on mine to get an idea of how it would look lettered up and a friend of mine did it for free but as Philly the Greek stated you cant beat hand lettering and I am planning on having it done. Jon
That is a mighty fine car you have. Here's a sign painter doing the lettering on a Nova Drag car. I think you might enjoy this. http://www.youtube.com/user/monkeysign123
Ha..that was entertaining. I know that dyno shop. Vinyl can look very good if done right. In my mind you can't top a properly hand lettered job though
Ha, Ha! More like, "Do you plan on racing the Chevy AGAIN?" First time out/first pass: Something like a 12.36 if I remember correctly, ....... and that was WITHOUT a drive shaft for the last 300' or so! But back to the lettering ............. Pretty sure MOST of the lettering will be done by brush with 1 Shot, but what he's looking for is the old style Mylar lettering film for part of the job. I've used the stuff for 35 - 40 years, typically in Silver (chrome) and Gold, but I know I have seen it in Blue, Red and I think Green. The new stuff is a polyester material and the mfgr lists it as a 6 month outdoor life. Hell, the old Mylar lasted for DECADES and it was about 1/3 the thickness of this new junk. My concern is, What fails after 6 months; the material itself, or the adhesive??? This car won't be sitting out in the weather and, as with most race/hobby cars, will be stored inside with practically NO exposure to UV. So what goes bad? Anyone have any experience with this stuff? And, does anyone have a lead on a Blue Mirrored /Blue Chrome material?
A lot of the guys are using House Of Kolor lettering enamels and they say it it doesn't bubble when cleared. Always used 1 shot myself but if you find a pro lettering man than he will fill you in.
I didn't build it, was a gift (no, I'm not worthy!). It was mostly built right, the rearend ad driveshaft were at conflicting angles, the driveshaft got pissed off and left!!!
this is just a thought. have it done in spun silver leaf. then spray the leaf with the metal tint stuff that you find at autozone, advance. etc. i know the effect you are after, and it will look good if its done with the right outlines and such. i might even try this myself!
Man she put a on my face. She's got talent and a nice top end kit to boot. OK joking aside about top ends, what city and state does she work out of ?
Now thats a Bad Ass II... You can try this site for Tinted Mylar, Probly have to call em for Colors and Pricing tho. http://www.grafixplastics.com/mylar_duralar.asp
WWWEEELLLL....we finally got the lettering done, and by 'we', I mean Older'n Dirt did it for me! It only took a year to get to it, not bad considering the way I usually do things! What'dya think?
