Heres a lil mod I built for Poncho. Well I started the build in '04, he bought it from me and I did most of the fabwork with both of us using working together on ideas and plans. He took 'er home and finished it off. Its down in Cali somewhere now...

Here is a scan from a magazine spread I took down from the garage wall this AM. Sorry, the thing has probably been up there for 10+ years and it mostly crumbled in my hands. I always thought this was a neat little car. I'd guess a 4-banger given the width of the front end. I have NO idea who's car it is, or what magazine published the spread. The shots were taken some place with restored Pennsy rr equipment. Anyone have the details? Later, Gary

    yep

he's built several top notch cars. more than once, when i used to go to the street rod nationals, i would see a car and think "WOW, that's neat!" and then when i got close enough to see the name on the sticker my reaction was "oh, steve grimes, i should have known."

in my opinion he has a style that's his own. no one else seems to do the stuff he does until later when they're copying him.

the man has vision and the talent to bring stuff to fruition.

    look here.

Just found this thread today- not sure how I missed it over the years. I have one that is about 75% together right now. I have to say that Steve Grimes stuff is way cool, But if you have to dole out the term master of the modified my vote would go to the late Dave Gale out of Ohio. Paging through this thread I have seen three or four of these cars that Dave had his hands in as far frame setup and style. Probably the the best known was the black mid twenties Dodge with the red- orange wheels that has been posted several times during this thread. It belonged to Jon Gobetti, who was the last editor of ROD ACTION magazine, and spent quite a few years running around the Phoenix area until recently sold. One of these fine days I will learn to post pictures so that I can post a few of my projects here for all to see.

Here is a couple, First one is Zack Sikola's hemi powered one with an early Ford drivetrain. And yes he drives the tail off it. The other one was my dad's its all steel with a flatty and a quickchange. He built the entire car except the motor when he was in his late 60's. It was Street Rodder Mag. street rod of the runner-up in 2000.

Not much of an update, or maybe it is...

    Still in progress.
Well, not really progressing at all.
I just moved from CA to PA.
    Still haven't unpacked the garage...

Mine's come a little farther along, maybe with a little of an identity crisis. Bastard between Modified and Altered.
