On saturday I'm going to pick up a '51 or '52 (not sure which year it is yet) Pontiac Chieftain 2dr from a life long friend of mine. It has sat rusting next to his parents garage for the last 20 years, but it is rebuildable. Trim and everything is there. Has original inline six and tranny as well.

Are there rebuild kits out there for those engines? Not sure if it worth attempting. What would you guys suggest dropping in there? A Pontiac 400 is my first thought.

This is not a resto by any means. Planning on bagging it. Think buzz bomb's poncho.

I'm sure you can find the parts to rebuild the old motor. not something I would do unless it was to be a restoration.

Pontiac 400 sounds good to me.

I'm hopefully finally towing it home on Saturday. I'll take pics as the truck drops her off :)

Pontiac 400 is definitely the way to go.
Don't throw away the original - part it out on eBay so some poor sap restoring one can get the parts they need!
