Very cool. You must have been all over the front end of your car like a spider, forming those things with the visor in place.
Hmm, if I ever dig up a spare hood for my '42 it's getting punched and I know just where it's gonna get drug to. Sweet job there Mr. Jay.
Depends on how big a chunk you want, should only be a few dollars for a 12" chunk, but I can check and post it later. It is a very heavy dense wood even when dried.
That's what it's all about !! "You can see where between the metal didn't quite get formed perfectly." Street rods gotta be perfect. Hot rods just gotta look hot and go fast. Nice job.
I'm nothing short of impressed with your ingenuity. Then again, I know it was all the helpers idea, plans, and execution! Way to go girls!
Hey, Can I suggest that if you're gonna give this a wurrl that you grind and sand your panel free of old paint BEFORE you lay out & punch your louvers? The metal will form easier, and ya won't open a knuckle feathering the old paint. Most old painters HATE louvers come paint prep time given you can't really sand between them with a machine and thus must be sanded, inbetween each one, by hand. The sharpe edges are usually good for a cut knuckle or two! !@#$%^&* Louvers! " Meanwhyle, back aboard The Tainted Pork "
I wonder if locust would work as well as the osage orange/bois d'arc? Pretty hard I think, and those damned things grow everywhere. It wants to take the edge off cutting tools, though.
That's awesome work and a great tech tip. I mite have.to have my Goodmorning brother make me up a die like that. Very nice work.
