I just bought a 1953 Buick 4d in parts, everything except the body and frontfenders. My thoughts was to use the engine and grill+bumpers in my 1948 Chevy coupe, sort of the start of my custom project. The engine is a cast ironblock with aluminum 4bl intake and aluminum heads, so it might be newer than 1953, if I Google the numbers I find it might be a 1964 engine?! The numbers I can see is: On the block rigth above the tranny: B1357948 3 On the intake: 1359122 On the header: 1359359 (the last 359, am I not 100% sure on) Can anyone tell me the size and amount of hp this engine has? Thanks!! Mikael
Thanks guys!! I cant really figure what to do with it, I bought it for a 1953, but think a 1964 engine is a bit to new to fit with the ideas for the project with my 48 coupe...
Engine doesn't care what car it's in, it's probably a better performer than the '53 Nailhead was, the '53 V8s had small ports or something, didn't flow that well, one year only deal. And it will bolt to something besides a dynaflow at that.
The 64 300 was the only one with alum. heads. If I remember right, it takes the Buick-Olds-Pontiac bell housing. I had a 65 300 in my Chev van, it is a very good motor and became a 340, then a 350.
300 is something of a hot rodding orphan. All of the stock rebuild parts are available. Unfortunately, there are very few hot rod parts available. The biggest problem being four barrel intakes. Since your motor has an aluminum factory four barrel manifold it should have aluminum heads as well. For the right buyer, a desirable piece. The Buick small block V8s are lighter than a SBC Chevy or 5.0 Ford. They are also narrower and longer.
The '64 300/4 bbl engine was factory rated at 250 hp, and had 11:1 compression. The 215 guys like to use the heads on their engines when they bore them out to 3.75 and use new sleeves, for the larger valves and ports.
