I searched this and only found one Mercury with a Fleetline backglass. It was a 51 Mercury and had a 41 Fleetline glass. Has anyone used a 49-52 Fleetline Deluxe window(with stainless trim) in a 49-51 Mercury? Post pictures. If this looks good, I will be in the market for the glass, trim and frame.
Don't know but I cut the rear window section out of a 47 Chevy sedan I parted out just for that purpose. All I need now is to find the Merc guy that needs it....
i have a back window out of a 1947 chevy fleetline i parts out i cut it out with frame and trim and it is for sale pm me .thanks
I cut down a rear cab window frame from a 5 ton chevy dump truck for a 28 sports coupe rear window.worked and looks fine
I got a '51 Merc and I was wondering about a rear window for it. Any sugestions would be appreciated.
Did you mean 41 Fleetline? Fleetline usually defines a fastback model which wasn't made in 41. I do think the "German Helmet" 4 door body was called a Fleetline in 1941.
I'm not sure about a fast back in 41, but the mercury I'm referring to is said to have a 41 fleetline back window....check out the thread, its George Garzas car. Here it is... 2009 Mercury Gathering Book (sneak peek pics)
a '51 merc RARELY looks good, "book of love" merc is good as well as the hirohata merc'. Those are some good examples, but if you have a '49-50 then just reuse the og rear window, if you have a '51 merc then find a '50 rear window.
Correction ..... A 51 window looks right when it is done right! A 51 merc window belongs in a 51 mercury. Dont get fooled , the reason people started using 50 merc glass in a 51 merc was not for looks..... it was because they didnt know how to lay the 51 window down like they should and that is a fact.Dont get me wrong there are some guys who do like the look of a 50 window better then the 51 but it is rare. Do yourself and history a favor ...... keep the 51 window in a 51 merc please.
Yes !!!!! Look at that beauty !!!! I dont see how anyone can not think a 51 window looks better on a 51 merc. It does take the Sultan but his son can lay em just as good and he is still here doin it for us. R.I.P. Dick Dean. Badass picture of a badass sled.
That is a beautiful Merc, and a beautiful Merc is a beautiful Merc but IMO that back window doesn't do a whole lot for the car, I happen to like it a bit better when I put my thumb over it in the picture. Use what you like, obviously, I happen to like the 49/50 Merc window myself, but to each their own.
I'd say, get it and go! Although not Fleetline windows, check this earlier thread for some nice Paul Bragg mixin' and matchin'. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=386068
sorry still no fleetline window! but while waiting..heres german 51, with the rear window turned upside down! i think he bought the car in california like this! -palle
