Stromberg 48s aren't all that rare. Now, a Stromberg that doesn't leak - that's rare.

I have never had one leak after I worked on it, even at the 6 lb fuel pressure that I run them at..

Then why do they call them 'fire pots'?

The 48's were used in '33 and '34. They are basically the same as a 97 except flow 30 to 40 more CFM ( I can't remember exactly ) Strombergs will leak if the fuel pressure is too high or not rebuilt correctly using inferior parts. With the new gross-type needle and seats the "fire pot" deal is a thing of the past.

I use a float valve that has a flat neoprene button on the front similar to some modern carbs.
I bought a couple boxes of them back in the 50's and haven't run out yet.

stillrunners, you are going to hate this ... it was in Mesquite by his Mother-in-Laws house. The guy new what they were and had them labled ... so he either didn't know what they were worth or didn't care ?!?

Oh by the way he bought them for $50 bucks, I guess I was thinking $10 each ???!!!???

  18. When I got to dig for carbs in the one yard I think I found one for every five 97s.

On eBay it didn't matter, $100-$125 everytime for a complete core carb if the flaps still move. Sometimes even if they don't if it's fairly clean.
