hi every body i am looking for any pictures or drawings of the shift selector pivot, on a 1950 Buick with the 3 on the tree manual. I'm looking for a picture of the push pull selector that allows you to select between 1&reverse and 2&3 i have all the linkage but i am missing the actual pivot on the bottom of the steering column any help would be great thanks all Jayson
Hi, i am new the hamb. This is my first post. I have a complete picture from the 1950 Buick service manual. I am somewhat computer skills limited. If I could have your email i could send you a picture. or i can send you one in the mail. thanks
try the teambuick.com they have a 1952 service manual under references....if this will not help... let me know I will photograph my 53
How's this? you can see the piece coming off the steering column and a few other parts like the master cylinder for reference....The pivot you are looking for...I think....comes from the upper right hand corner of the photo...as the steering column is in the upper right hand corner.... If I can take more photos, let me know
the part im missing is for the linkage in the left side of the photo the big rod thats is the focal point. if you could take some side pictures that be great
my special does not have back up lights....but I assume you mean the rod off the connection for the steering...I'm gonna go try to snap a photo right now
ok let's try this one.....this is the bar that controls reverse and first tape measure in there for reference...sorry the lighting sux...it's gettin late here
thats for the picture mike but thats not it, its the one right above it its only about a 1/2 inch rod that comes out of the colum right before the main shift rod, im sorry for all the run around mike its just hard for me to try and explain it, and i have work today so i cant get out there, thanks for all the help
dude, I got your back...trust me...I have made very similar posts.... out of the column 1/2 inch rod....I'll go find it
ok, let's vector in on this.... to your right is the column..... the bottom section coming out.....of the column to the left allows 1st and reverse.....it has a bar that drops down to the pivots I previously posted.... Above it is the linkage for 2nd and 3rd..... I am not seeing a 1/2 inch rod...
now you should see the bar drop down....it connects to the previous photo and then goes all the way down to the photo I first posted today....I'll help as much as I can, I seriously know how much this sucks...
its the rod directly in the center of this photo, that thick steel plate that connects to that U shaped pice on the colum is what im missing we found it!!
so we got it.....phew....ok, are you fabbing this yourself? Do I need to put a tape measure to it so you can fab one?
hope this helps....I put the end of the tape measure on the column....you need to factor in the width of the column to make the whole part
its not that one. if you look at the picture you took just now with the tape measure, its the peice right above the inch and 1/4 is what im missing
ok so you want that piece...as it pops out from the column.....this is gettin to be quite humorous...
hell this is gettin funny for me.... here's two photos.....one has that dinky little rod...the other has the length of the piece it connects to....you do know that this is the 2nd and 3rd gear linkage?
yep that be it! im thinking of it as the 1 & reverse selector, that little pivot is what im missing thanks so much for the help mike ill get a photo of my colum either later today or tomorrow. it is like the blind leading the blind
Interesting postscript to all of this...Drove the 53 to my Uncle's house today with the boys...as I rounded the final corners I lost 1st gear and reverse.....was able to nurse it to my Uncle's house... The linkage for 1st and reverse had fallen apart, apparently the cotter pin gave it after 50 plus years... HOWEVER I still had all the photos I had taken of the linkage on my cell phone for ponchopowered.... I slapped that sucker back together and drove home no problems... talk about karma.....and yeah I avoided the obvious pun here
