Let me quell some of the rumors going around.

The Excelsior Stahl Sport Radial is a STEEL BELTED RADIAL tire. They will be made in the USA. We will have 20 sizes that range from a 5.00R16 to a 5.50/6.00R21. These tires are designed to have the narrow bias ply profile, but will be built in a radial construction. They will be U.S. DOT and European ECE approved. Prices will start at $189.00 for the 500R16.

We unveiled this tire at SEMA and the response was very positive. We are taking orders now and will have tires beginning in January 2010.

Sizes:
5.00R16
5.50R16
6.00R16
6.50R16
7.00R16
7.50R16
5.50R17
6.00/6.50R17
7.00/7.50R17
5.50R18
6.00/6.50R18
7.00R18

8. What would the cost be on a pair of 5.00x16s & a pair of 7.00x18s - with tubes?

Cruzr,

The Excelsior Stahl Sport radials and Coker Classic 16” radials aren’t meant to compete with each other.

The Excelsior Stahl Sport radials will be available in a much broader size range. In addition they feature a more aggressive tread design and will be speed rated. The 16” sizes will be “H” 130MPH speed rated and the 17” up will be “S” 113MPH rated.

I saw the tires at SEMA and they looked awesome! I know its a fair amount, but its probably less than 350.00 -400.00 total over non radials. Not too bad really.

Jess, Understand they are not menat to compete, my concern is we{32gal} and i just bought a set of the Coker Classic Radials in blackwall to try and overcome the inherent problems with bias plys, We havent driven them yet , but several guys on the Hamb run them and have said good things. I hope we didnt "jump the gun" and now that this product is coming out not have the drive we had hoped for. Your opinion on this would be appreciated. Or if you prefer, email me privately at

thanks, Randy

Jess,
Don't mean to bombard you with a ton of questions, but are there wear ratings for any of the tires you sell, ie: the firestone bias and these radials?

Have they ever found a suitable match for the Coker blackwall radial? They offered them in 16's. But they are too big for the front. Anything smaller to match, for the fronts?

Roothwag,

The Coker’s are only available in 16” sizes, 5.50R16 to 7.50R16.

The Excelsior will have a broader size range.

21. cruzr, the ones you got have a better bias 'look' IMHO, assuming that's what you're after. I know plenty of folks who ask about those "cross plies" and the 5.50, 7.50 combo on 16's works well.

not often does procrastinating have a reward.

I have been waiting to change from the 16" firestones to 17" and was going to use the Excelsior bias tires. But haven't gotten around to painting the wheels and ordering tires.

I'm glad I waited now.

Thank You, Coker Tire for this.

This is good news. Hopefully some harder rubber, too? I will have to ask Santa about another set of rims and tires then. Gary

Has anyone bought a set of these yet, if so, what has been your experience? Did they balance well, did you use tubes, how are they wearing.

Bump.

I'd like to know if anyone (Jess H?) knows the treadwear rating of the new(ish) Excelsior Radials and the Coker 16" radials.

This rating would help me decide between the two tires. I've read (in this thread, even) that the Excelsior bias ply tires are a softer compound and don't last too long. Are the Excelsior radials the same?

I plan on driving my car alot and would like a set of tires that will last more than 15k miles. At least 30k would be more like it, especially with the replacement cost involved.

Thanks,
Malcolm

The Coker Classic 16” radials have been out in the market for several years. Our experience, both personal and with customers, has been very positive. We have them on a ’32 Ford and our ’52 Ford shop truck and they have performed well. I know several HAMB members that run them too. They carry a Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) of 400 for treadwear.

The Excelsior Stahl Sport radials are new. We do have them on a ’32 Buick Schafer 8 and they perform really well. They are designed with more performance oriented tread and I think they will wear a little faster than the Coker Classics. The compound is different from the Excelsior Comp V tires. The Comp V’s were speed rated “V” or 149 mph and the Stahl Sports are “H” or “S” depending on the size.

Thank,

Jess
