Food for thought has anyone checked with the impound yards and tow companies, perhaps its was abandoned. Unless it has a prominently displayed VIN tag like a modern car, most cops won't even bother to look for a number much less know how. The truck just could be sitting around.

Same with my dad's '49 pickup: he had just bought it and drove it home, it sat outside for about a month and one day it was gone! he found the guy and it's a good thing the guy could run fast kuz my dad was gonna beat his a$$ within an inch of his life...
The troopers caught him later with another stolen car in his buddy's garage

Different headlights and rims but that's easy enough to change Interior is different as well but again, all that takes is a run to a junk yard. Wonder what it looks like under the hood...
