Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HBKShopMonkey, Mar 30, 2010.

  1. I got my roadster, with a very non traditional suspension set-up, on the road two weeks ago. If you don't like it, oh well:p but it rides like a dream:D I have well over a thousand miles on it now...with the coil over shock set-up it floats along the road...............I'll post some more detailed pics soon! Hope ya like it:cool:

Why wouldn't this work? It's not cookie cutter, that is, built from a catalog. Deisgn work and fabrication.....
name of the game. A damn nice looking rod.

Very cool, good to hear. After putting over 3k miles on my T roadster with poorly set-up wishbones and a buggy spring wish mine had coilovers, lol.

Glad to hear everything works. Might be worth your time to try and do something about the lack of ackerman steering geometry. Would probably handle even better.

Nice idea. I dig the new take on using a straight axle. Asthetically its not my favorite, but I think it could be refined/hidden somehow. All and all a thumbs up to you on this one.

Isnt thinking outside the box traditional? Looks like a coil over rear axle kit set up on a front axle, I should go buy a bunch of cheap rear axle coil over kits a remarket them as front suspension kits. :D

Not a cookie cutter for sure. Nice orignal thinking. Only thing I question is the mounts for the hairpins look a bit frail. All in all ya did good.

  15. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER...So after working out all the bugs it was time to tear the roadster back down and slick her out and paint her. We chose Layfette Metallic Silver with House of Color Rainbow Flake and some custom pinstriping by Sonny Keeton...One more step left finish up the interior the week after next! Thought I'd post some pics for you viewing pleasure:cool:

So the bottom spring cups are welded top and bottom to the side of the hairpins?

That is reminiscent of the Corvair front suspension popular decades ago.
It functioned very well but didn't have the "LOOK".
For that reason it was mostly mostly used in full fenders.
Kinda Sorta like the MII of nowadays.

  20. Definitely a cool car. I liked it before you painted it and wondered what color it would end up. I think that you made a very good choice in all of it, paint, pinstriping and tires/wheels. It is good to hear that something untried turns out to work so well. Keep us posted, I'm sure that you're going to continue to have a lot of fun with it.

  21. I gotta say, your "turtle deck" looks like you might have used an old pickup truck hood turned around. Genius. Looks great.

  22. Thanks guys...I'll post some pics of the interior in a few week hopefully...the turtle deck is a 50 chevy car hood, turn backwards, with the front fender bodyline from a 54 chevy placed in the middle, and 54 chevy belaire rear fender chrome trim turned upside down for the back corners where the fake air duct is:eek:

Cool roadster. I like the turtle deck. Is that gauge panel a '57 Chevy?

    Very original and creative.

You have more faith in half inch bolts than I do.

I love the suspension; and I can tell you exactly why: The cups look like show car stuff from the 60's; along with the trunk... The front and rear were tied together as such; and the mags with wide whites compliment it further.

    Bitchin.

The ackerman could be fixed easily; if one wanted to. It looks like your discs will clear if you swap the steering arms from left to right and lenghen the tie bar.

How can swapping the steering arms side for side help correct the ackerman ???
