What size rod to peak a hood?

    What size round rod do you guys recommend for making a mean peak on a early 50's rod? Thank you for you time.

    Hi Tyler,

    I would not use rod because of the shrinkage and warpage caused by all the welding that is necessary to pull the job off. I would make a forming tool, pre-stretch the bead area, use the forming tool to make a bead. The forming tool would be like a large dull chisel that you hit with a hammer over a thick rubber pad to absorb the blows. Lots of work and you would need to practice the technique on some scrap first, but an alternative to welding. This can be done using no filler at all if you are patient.

    If you're trying to peak a split hood...try using a peak off of an existing hood. I cut a Nova hood to make the peak in my 48 chevy truck hood.
