Would anyone be interested in some new cast aluminum self canceling turn signial boxes? Like used to be made with the wheel that runs on the steering wheel and clicks off when you re-center the steering wheel.

I have never seen / noticed one. Do you have a pic of an old one you can post? It sounds like a great idea.

finned aluminum but still not self canceling. I'll post some pictures of my design tomorrow. They used to make several different styles of the self canceling type, and alot of the companies still make the same style but not with the self canceling. and all of the new stuff is timer based i.e. if your sitting at a stop light they turn off when the timer runs out. I just like things to work like they should and blinkers should turn of when you turn the wheel straight.

  11. I recently bought a used one on ebay......the rubber wheel has to be
on an angle to contact a Plymouth steering wheel. Plan on installing
it before long. Hopefully the wheel is not too dried out and will work
ok. Paid $40 for it. The case is different on the one I got.....hammered
aluminum finish with a small green light indicator.

I used to drive something that one just like what 47Plym described. I think it was my highschool auto shop teacher's old Dodge flatbed pickup. That one worked pretty well most of the time.

Oddly I thought, every old 1942-48 Plymouth I have ever owned had a turn signal switch with the self-canceling wheel feature, emergency brake indicator light, glovebox light, trunk light(except the wagon), and underhood light. I still havean accessory electric-open gas cap for one.

If you get the part made and the look good not too bulky a nice streamline shape you'll have a winner, and some real good intrest in them.

I'd be interested, depending on the look and the price.

  20. Went to the garage to take a picture of the turn signal I bought.

I had forgotten (due to old age and senility I guess) that this one
is chromed. The old originals, like we had on a 50 Chevy when I was
a kid, were grey hammerd finish.

Otherwise this one is made like the oldies..........

I currently have one of the $20 cheapies......it worked ok for a while, but
the works inside have messed up......no detent to know which position
the lever is in........just have to guess at correct position.

well, here is my idea of what I'd like to make. don't anyone get in a big hurry it would probably be late fall or winter before I had anything ready to sell. I'd like to sell it for somewhere around $75 - $100. I don't have a clue what it would actually cost to build one so that price might be way off. If I can't sell it for less than $125 I won't even try. It's nice to see there is some interest in this so I will proceed.

  24. Already got one in my Willys Overland. A spare wouldn't hurt.

well that's my intent. build a quality made in america part. I don't really care for the other finned one that's available, I can't speak to the quality, I just don't like the billet look.

  26. I thought I saw someone making one with an adjustable timer to turn off the turn signal. Hit the signal, and a few seconds or a minute later, it automatically turns off. If not already made, I want a finder's fee for the idea:D

Yea the timer thing has been done, and I drove a car that had one and it bugged the ever living shit outa me. It has been mentioned previously.

What kind of column do you have? I don't think it will work with a '40 column, the bell is too big. A "banjo" column, vw, early gm, any type that didn't bell out more than about 1/2" (1" total diameter) larger than the column should work fine.

Yea the thickstun air cleaner was partly my inspiration.
