Great project you have there, especially sence it was your grandparents car.
Prabadly a silly question, but I will ask anyway!!You are going to gusset the lowered step, on your aframes, arent you???
I have a 51 also, and I am thinking stepping mine also.

Great thing about a special is that it comes pretty well factory dechromed. Love the clock delete plate, too- That's only the second car I've seen with one.

Good job! This is a picture of my brothers 51 Chevy. It was my granddads too. He used to pull the back seat out and haul calves to market. My grand dad drove it till he blew up the 216 in it and pushed it out to the field. We lost track of it when the farm was sold. My brother found it about 2 years ago and brought it home.
Hes put an S10 rear end under it and getting ready to put in a Chevy small block V8 and turbo trans in it. The old car only has 70,000 actual miles on it and probably never saw over 50 miles per hr. Boy is it in for a surprise. Its fun to remember the history you had with these old cars as your bringing them back to life.

more suspension pics please, looks like a inexpensive way to slam it in the weeds! What about the upper arms? same thing? i.e. cut an relocate the mount?

It looks like the uppers will work. ill build in some extra adjustment in the lowers that way i can fix what little camber there is. i wanted to raise the inner mount on the lower arm but that will just make more problems. ill just have to see. im sure ill do 50 drawings before i decide what to do.

I think it's fantastic that your grandad owned the Chevy, the new motor is looking good. What year and size is the new engine 216,235 or a 250? Just below the radio delete plate there's a add on with a chrome door, question what is that unit? :D

    CRUISER
